Apologies, not sure if this is the correct forum or not, but thought I'd ask here.

My "one gun per year" purchase is coming up, and thinking about getting a Ruger mini 30.

Primary concearn is getting mags that are reliable and are of quality.

Looked online, only thing that came up often for mags for these guns that I found were made by USA.  Not sure of their (USA brand) quality now, but some years ago, they were all crap.

Any feedback would be appreciative.

Thanks

Along time ago I had one and I used aftermarket mags. I'm actually unsure as to what make they were. However, they worked well for me.

Yes, USA brand mags are usually crap.  With Ruger rifles, buying Ruger mags is about the only way to go for good mags.  Do you have a specific use in mind for a Mini-30 ?

Well, I have all the guns I'll ever need, but... thinking about using the mini thirty to replace my AR for my truck gun when riding out on my property.  I sold my last AK along time ago, but turns out I have a CRAPLOAD of 7.62x39 ammo that I forgot all about.  Figure one thing I don't have is a small weapon that will fire that particular round, and honestly, always had a hankering for a Ruger semi auto rifle.  Since I do go into town from time to time with the gun in the truck, figure the mini 30 would fit just nice in that it won't stick out like a sore thumb like an AK would in the truck.

It sounds to me like an AK with a folding stock would be much better, but oh well.  It's very easy to find quality AK mags too.

An SKS might fit the bill rather well, too.  TAPCO makes a nice M4-style stock for the SKS, they call it the T-6/Fusion.

The Mini 30 has a .308 diameter bore, and anything other than american made ammo uses a .311 diameter bullet.

Also, bump for more info. I have a mini 30 I got for free.
