Yesterday, I had the occasion to take my M4 for a spin and pay a suprise visit on some of my community's more troubled residents. Upon going from the cold outdoors to an overheated apartment, my EOTech 551 fogged up. I have not trested it with anything. I have been using it for about a year and a half, with excellent results so far, and no fogging, even in heavy rain. I have had my eye protection fog up several times under similar circumstances, but never my EOTech. Anyone experience anything similar? Before the EOTech bashers rear up, I imagine that an Aimpoint would have behaved the same way. The good new was that even fogged up, I still had clear acquistion of my reticle, and with both eyes open, had no trouble using the reticle and acquiring targets (none, of which, thankfully, needed shooting). As a side note, my ARMS 40 (which I have only been using for a few months) popped up during the whole affair, probably from the buckle on my sling, and I didn't even notice until we were done. |

Same thing happened to my Bushnell, but in the other direction. After shooting a bit on cold days, a patch of fog (condensation) would appearon the inside, partly obscuring the view. After returning it, Bushnell gave me a new Holosight (props to them). What probably happened to you, like me, is that the Holosight's seal broke somewhere, and some, if not all the nitrogen(?) has escaped, now replaced by normal air. That air now contains water, and is subject to condensation when a sharp temperature gradient is present. That's my semi-educated guess only. SMGLee is the EOtech officionado around here, from what I've read. IM' him. |

Fog on the inside, or fog on the outside? Fog on the inside = return to Eotech for repair. Fog on the outside = normal. Water will always condense on untreated, cold smooth surfaces when brought into warm humid air (something best seen on cold mugs of beer [beer]) You might try treating the exterior surface of your Eotech with an anti-fog product. I use the Smith brand no-fog wipe on my shooting glasses, but I never use anything on the Eotech. I've tried it, but everything always seems to leave a haze that bothers me. |
