DISH ch.345

I remember seeing this movie at the theatre as a kid.

One of the great "old" movies around.

It's actually titled after a disease sailors get after spending 6 months at sea.

Wasn't there an issue with the fact that the book started out in New Bedford, when in reality it started from Nantucket?  Or vice versa?

I don't know about any of that .

But my dad took me to the movies to see this when I was 6 years old. It was pretty damn impressive.

Did you ever see the version where Picard (Patrick Stewart) plays Ahab?

Yes, very good.  I love how Ahab panders to the crew using emotional rhetoric, and then how he calmly argues in trying to persuade the rational Starbuck.  He's the same crazy, but uses different approaches to get what he wants.

One of the worst books ever.  I can't imagine it translates into a good movie.

"I grin at thee, THOU GRINNING WHALE!"

Incredible book... If you finish it and think it only speaks about revenge.... you're wrong..

I remember something about "...methodically knocking peoples' hats off..."

Starbuck: To be enraged by a dumb beast is blasphemy.

Ahab: Speak not to me of blasphemy; I would strike the very sun from the sky if it offended me.

Awesome book.  Ahab is a great villian.  Hard to call him a villian really.  He's quite compelling in his own way, more of a dark hero.

Funny, I was just looking for the motivational speech Ahab gave the crew talking about quenching the harpoons in whale's blood. Anyone have a youtube link of the Gregory Peck version ?
