I was reading some posts the other day and read that some members had stated that they used cat litter to put in their gun safes and ammo cans! I had never heard of this practice and because I'm a dog person, I never thought of the possibility of the absorbent cat litter used as moisture control!
I was wondering how many folks used this as moisture control and if so which kind/brand do you use and how well does it work?

You probably dont have to worry about moisture control like I do.
But if you do have to, I suggest this nifty thing

In all honestly, I'd look for any product thats silicia gel stuff. Cabelas seels some, but if the cat litter in the store has silicia gel in it I'd be up for using it. I beleive there might also be some type of a salt thats used as well, but I'm not positive on that.

"New to the market is litter made from silica gel, and odorless mineral that is used in little packets to control moisture in packages containing vitamins, cameras, binoculars, and other products where moisture might cause damage. Manufacturers claim the "pearls" to be nontoxic and bacteria resistant."

This stuff is almost pure silica gel – the same as used in most dissicant packets. Thrown a handful of it into an old sock, tie the end in a knot, and toss it in your gun safe or ammo cans.
