Having had a few encounters with moose, I can say that they are, without a doubt, some of the dumbest fucking creatures known to man....Yes I would have defecated in my hunting clothes as well...Being that close to a cow with young is not a position I would want to be in.

I've been ALMOST that close to a wild moose with calf once.
1983, backpacking in the Wind River Range outside Pinedale, WY. My greenhorn buddy, amatuer photographer, was DANGER close to them and thought they were MULE DEER
I didn't want to YELL at him to get the fuck away from her because I thought I might spook her into charging him. So I walked over close (I had a tree to my back After they wandered off and he had his pics, I calmly explained to him that those photos WERE NOT worth getting stomped to death.

I got too close to a mom and little one once.......ONCE! |

We saw her calf's butt sticking out of the brush; my buddy said, "is that an elk calf", to which I replied, "wrong color, an elk would be tan instead of rust". At this point, Mom stuck her head out of the willows, and when she saw us, her ears just laid down behind her head. My buddy said, "what do you think we should do", and I advised running. She escorted us for about 200 yards, then doubled back for her calf. Good Times... |

| Thats how I hunt deer with my longbows and recurves. Off the ground and up close and personal. Its a rush having animals up that close eye to eye. I have had deer closer than his moose was and had large bucks charge my ass. I can usually care less if I kill something or not. Its having encounters like that. That makes it worthwhile. |

We found a young moose stuck and exhausted one day when we were out duck hunting. It was so tired it hardly even struugled and I doubt it would've made it through the night. Unfortunately, we had to shoot the mother since she wouldn't let us get close enough to help the baby out. Just kidding. |
