Face mask/shield bullshit aside, staying allied with the Philippines is somewhat crucial right now, as is allying with Vietnam (who would believe we would ever do that?) and other countries in that region. We all have a common goal to reduce and roll back China hegemony and aggression in the region. I have no doubt, however, that SoD Austin showed up with a fist full of dollars to help grease the skids. The little I know about the Philippine's is, if you have Yankee Dolla's you can get the Filipino's to do about anything.
With these agreements in place, China will be a whole lot less likely to pull shit or go into Taiwan. |

In the end, we CAN force the issue if need be but most likely the Philippines will come to heel when they see they could be left swinging in the wind, at China or whoever's mercy, when the inevitable shit kicks off. Philippines has been fighting Moors and other Islamic terrorists in country for well over a century, they are no stranger to local fighting but need the US for the bigger picture and material and training support for their internal wars. |
