Here's mine:

It was the movie I'd been waiting most of my adult life to see.  I took vacation to get in line early opening day (no, I wasn't that much of a loser that I camped out).

And what did I get?

Jar Jar Fuckin' Binks.

Buzzkill extrordinaire.

They all were.

As for my biggest disappointment, it's gotta be "The Aristocrats".

It simply wasn't funny.  Even a little bit.  At all.

Off the top of my head, Munich. It was long and boring.

Also, Syrianna sucked pretty bad too. Too much conspiracy theorist ideas behind it...

Alien 3 was sort of a disappointmet. Alien Resurrection and Alien vs Predator were freaking horrible though. Those are my biggest disappointments. I think the upcoming AvP2 is going to be just as disappointing.

I thought "The Aristocrats" was very funny, but more importantly, I thought it provided great insight into how the comedy business really works behind-the-scenes. It's interesting to see what comedians think is funny.

I was very dissapointed in "The Aviator." I think diCaprio is a phenomenal actor, but the second half of the movie was horribly written.

I think almost any remake is without merit.

The village was miserable - and the version of it that I saw seemed to be only partially edited - there were boom mikes in every other scene, and some of the transitions were "less then flawless".  I was quite disappointed

Starship Troopers.  LOVED the book.  When I heard they were making a movie of it, was happy as hell...after all, such a great book deserves a kickass movie translation.  It got a suckass movie translation.  The smirking scifi style of Paul Verhoeven was absolutely wrong for the material.  Don't get me wrong, action and tits always entertains, but as an adaption of the material it was miserable.  I think Spielberg could have made a great ST movie, however.  Just mimic the feel from Saving Private Ryan, don't screw with the story much, and bam...instant scifi war epic.

Alien Resurrection.  I don't know why I keep doing it to myself, but every few years I watch it again when it comes on, hoping maybe this time I'll like it.  And each time it sucks anew.  I can't believe the guy responsible for the sheer brilliance of Firefly/Serenity also crapped out the script for this movie.

Event Horizon.  I only remember that it looked cool as all hell in the previews.  I was pretty jazzed to go see it.  Saw it on a Sunday afternoon with a virtually empty theater....guess everyone else was smarter.  The movie was gory and nonsensical, and it left me feeling annoyed and queasy.  Is it too much to ask a movie to try and scare me, rather than simply make me ill?

As a standalone action/sci-fi movie, Starship Troopers was decent.

As an adaptation of the book, it sucked.

I don't understand the Fallen reference.   Did you want Denzel to win?

Biggest disappointment to me was "Sum of All Fears".

Biggest potential disappointment could be "Point of Impact" depending on how it gets done.

I had high hopes that were crushed by these crappy movies.

1.  Star War Episode I...JAR JAR killed my childhood in one episode...I wanted to burn the theater down after hearing two lines from that idiot.  Lucas said it was for little kids, but that is what R2D2 is for.

2.  Land of the Dead: wow, where to start...bad special effects (didn't see that one coming) where the gun shots were so fake it looked like a B-movie.  Not to mention that it wasn't serious or funny for a single second.  Had to appologize to my gf and see multiple chick flicks to make up for that one.

3.  Punisher I loved the comic book and the movie was just aweful and cheesy nonstop.  It had a good cast and a good solid story that they just turned to crap.

4.  Contact I waited the whole movie to see the aliens and it turns out to be her freakin father?

Matrix, Star Wars, Day of the Dead sequels all were big disappointments.

The latest disappointment for me was the Black Dahlia, from the writer of LA Confidential, one of my all-time favorite movies.  The Black Dahlia wasn't a a bad movie, but it wasn't kick-ass and perfect like LA Confidential.  High expectations.

Wow, some of you guys are listing great movies (Matrix, Starship Troopers, The Punisher...).  Just goes to show how different folks need different strokes.

The OP listed Star Wars "episode 1" -- yeah, I was pretty disappointed with it.  They would have been better off using the Jim Henson puppets and what not.  Too much emphasis on using computer generated graphics & animation.    And what was with the racial stereotyping & language accents?   A real turn off.  How could Lucas put that out and not know that people would be offended?

For 2006, I submit this DOG of a film.  The 30 second TV trailer was the best part.
