Almost everything from Woodstock 69. Santana said he was peaking and didn't know where he was when they shoved him on stage to play.

IIRC, Chuck Mangione was a guest performer at some big sporting event, and he was so fricking stoned playing it was unbelievable.

Eric Clapton once played a concert laying flat on his back because he was too drunk to stand up. Supposedly the audience was so blotto they didn't mind too much.

I saw The Who back in the early 70's.

Two roadies carried Pete Townsend onto the stage, another hung his guitar strap around his neck and then one of them placed an opened bottle of Courvoisier on the floor in front of him and then he turned on the windmill.

I once saw a Metallica concert when they weren't sober. 2 guitars, a bass, and a vocalist, all playing seemingly different songs in different keys, while Lars created time signatures not heretofore known to humankind.

But I think Ozzy fronting black Sabbath on a New Year's Eve was one of the most impaired musicians I've ever seen remain more or less upright.

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock: flying high

But then I watched the op link.  Um, yeah.  That's about tops.  And then I watched them do Cover of the Rolling Stone.  Dude.......

Santana is up there, but I think that....well, the drum solo and the complete song itself is almost perfection.  And that overshadows how high they were.

Saw a deal on TV a couple months back and they were interviewing the guy that sat in for Moon, Scot Halpin.

Hendrix may or may not have been stoned at Woodstock.  But even sober, the guy's playing was so far out there, how could you tell?  He's one of those, "Can you imagine what he'd be doing if he'd lived another 20 years?

ETA: Van Morrison's performance in The Last Waltz would also be on my list.  Also, uncut Santana Woodstock here Fast forward to 3:05 for drum solo.

Pretty sure he wasn't on H. He was fairly coherent from what I saw on the "uncut" version. Just his basic weird self. Stoned? Maybe. A bit Drunk? Probably.

Nevertheless, one of the best performances in history.

That was before my time, but their fiascos were the stuff of legend:  playing the same song multiple times in one show, every band member simultaneously playing a different song, etc
