I just picked up my motorcycle from getting serviced and it has a large dent on the tank. They told me to bring it back later today. They are acting like they didn't do it; I am very upset. What should I do?

Never should have with it and I would have demanded the service manager or shop owner!

I had a shop fuck up rims, twice.  I contacted the manager immediately and had them document it on the service report and sign it.  I bought new rims (Alcoas for my truck) and they paid me cash for them the next day.  The MX rims I didn't give too much of a shit about, but they were for the wife's bike, so I got the mounting and balancing for free, which was almost what the rims/wheels cost.

Quoted:

I took the bike back and told the owner to look at his security tapes. He said he would review them and to call back tomorrow morning. Now it is a matter when he sees the bike get damaged, will he admit it? It is Cochise Motorsports just outside of Fort Huachcua, AZ. The owner (Cliff Allison) came out and at took a look at it. He seemed like an honest guy, I guess we will see tomorrow. But it is not a super expensive motorcycle (a Suzuki sv650), but it is my first and I was going to go back and upgrade in 6mos-1year, I have had it a year so far. So it will let me know if I should continue to spend money there or go elsewhere. I am on Fort Huachuca, the largest employer in the area and I will make sure I let everyone know if they are honest or if they try to screw me. My girl works for the Sheriffs office and I will make sure all the deputies also know how they treat me. But in the end it appears I am powerless, so I can only hope the owner has integrity. I can only relay their reputation. I am still upset but I try to remember to not blame them for their skepticism because I know people are probably always trying to screw them.

Went through something similar even with the same bike at a local shop. They failed to own up to what they did.

I spent jsut over 10k on a brand new bike a few months later from their competitor. I sent both my mother and father away from the place I had the work done to their competitor to buy 2 new bikes. Also, steered a friend away from them and he bought a bike at the competitor.

Hope it was worth it for the 60 dollar fix cocksuckers...

Well, first off, you should have reviewed that tape WITH him.

Second.  Why did you accept the bike back with the dent?  If that happened to me, I wouldn't have left the shop without having the floor manager/owner/biggest cheese there looking at it and figuring out WTF happened to my ride.

You made this harder for yourself by leaving the shop, as they could ultimately argue that  you did it on your way home and just want someone else to cover the bill.

However, it really depends on how much the shop cares about negative publicity.

That's another reason I wrench my own bike ( and I am far from mechanically inclined ).

Had my brand new '83 GpZ1100 in for service, one of the shop clowns hit the lot lizard in the face with a wet shop towel.
It was all fun and game until the lot lizard dropped my bike (he was pushing it out the service door).
Dented the tank.

Shop clown and his buddy the service manager tried to put my tank bag over the dent, but it didn't work.

I saw the dent and called out the service manager, he blamed me.
I went to the owner (he knew me pretty well), he told me to give him a day.

I went back to the shop after work the next day, he told me that his former mechanic and service manager no longer worked there.

His insurance paid for the damage.

The lot lizard was promoted to tire buster, he eventually worked his way up as the store manager.

Make them pay for the damages.
