My sister is doing a music project for some class at her college and needs to find scenes in movies where the actual scenery is peaceful and nice but the music is building to something bad.

Examples: the swimmers at the beach in "Jaws" or the ending of "Carrie"

I cannot believe that I'm using my 1000th post to bump this, but my sister does need help with this thing ASAP and I can't remember anything of the sort.

Well, the obvious ARFCOM choice is "Red Dawn" - At several points in the film, there are beautiful shots of serene wilderness, accompanied by ominous-sounding music (along with subtitles that show the exact time of year) which help to underscore the Wolverines' increasing level of desperation as winter sets in.

BTW, Basil Poledouris got WAY too little respect for the sound score - an unfortunate consequence of the film's "B-Movie" status.

I'm sure there's a shitload of that in the Star Wars movies.

Most movies that have desert scenes will have something like that, too.

The last 30 minutes of "Dances With Wolves" would be another good example, as the Lakota tribe are pursued by the U.S. Army through winter wilderness.

The Postman has some of that stuff in the winter, and at the first of it in the desert.

Parts of the movie "Empire of the Sun" comes to mind.

Also, a couple of scenes when synthesized music came into it's heyday like from "To Live and Die in LA" or  "Less Than Zero," or "Miami Vice" (THE SERIES, NOT THE MOVIE!!!) Pilot episode.

"Last of the Mohicans," maybe?  Like some scenes from the Night in the Fort, or the last battle at Chimney Rock, or even the scene where Col. Munroe gets ambused and killed?
