Simply question, hopefully a complex answer...

As a cop, how do you feel about the movie Training Day?

Entertaining fiction.

Denzel played a great character in that movie.

Never saw it and while certain members of the cast might draw me in (Harris Yulin and Cliff Curtis), the honest truth is that I would have no interest in seeing it. Why?

It's too overweighted in the big names in the cast for the plot involved. A movie about narcotics might draw me in ........ if I'm not too busy being overwhelmed by the actors and their fame......and this would do it. I have no dislike for Mr. Washington........but I have yet to see what is special about him as an actor..........and without that, the movie drops pretty far, pretty quick. It is better to have a leading cast of nobodys than to have a leading cast of unimpressibles.

Of course, most police movies, most police shows I avoid because what they do makes me absolutely cringe.

Pretty good movie; didn't like Ethen Hawk's role. Not as good a movie as Narc, or The Departed.

Narc is one of my alltime favorites as is The Departed.

I think Training Day an OK movie. Very "HollyWood"..........but to a certain degree, I think some of the things in the movie are fairly accurate (dirty cops, gang activity).

Completely tapped out my otherwise bottomless well of disbelief suspension.

MIB is more realistic.

As many times as it has been on cable (or available through Netflix/whatever) I have not had any intrest in watching it. That being said I find Mr Washington to be an excellent actor. Just no intrest in the 'topic' I never watched "the Shield" either

It was a Hollywood cop fantasy flick.  It's how they want the public to believe the Police operate.  It was entertaining, but unrealistic.  I never once saw him do ANY paperwork!

Completely disregarding the plot, I thought Denzel did a fantastic job of being a dirty, evil, nasty mother fucker. Normally, he's the clean cut white bread good guy. It was a refreshing change and truly displayed his acting ability.

Gave all the cop haters that much more ammunition.   A great vehicle for Denzel to show his acting prowess, but as a cop movie showing reality, it was the suck.

I liked it, as entertainment.  But as far as realism, it's about as real as Bad Boys II.

The sad thing is, some morons watch movies like Training Day and view it as reality.  It fuels anti-cop sentiments.

BTW, when I watch these types of movies, I can't help but think "damn, I'd hate to write that report" during the big action scenes.
