Hey all,
Well I have been living at home during college so far, but I can't take any more of my step-father. I almost knocked him on his ass on saturday (my birthday) because he decided to be a prick to me about me watching satellite on our Tv. He is contantly telling me I'm an idiot and putting me down, when realistically I probably have a higher IQ than him. Anyway, I just have a question for everyone, I am looking at leasing an apartment, and would like to know what all of you pay for water, gas, and electric bills? It will just be myself living there. Thanks

I don't live in an apartment and never did but work with a number of people who do.

I've heard anywhere from $90 to $150 just for electricity. Way cheaper than a house bill but not cheap considering what I use hear an apartment cost.

I'm in Kansas City, so prices may fluctuate a bit.

I used to live in a 650sq/ft apt for about $625, all bills included.

I also lived in a 900sq/ft townhouse with 2 floors and an attached garage for $700, but it was on the edge of town.

Utilities? Electricity: about $70,
water: about 25-30,
trash: 5-10,
gas: about 40-50 depending on season.

I recently moved out myself, into a house w/ 2 roommates. Water is nothing, like $20 a month per person. Electricity is gay, around $100 and some change per person, I don't have gas so I don't know about that. Cable/internet is also like 100 a month, but divided down is about $30-$50 a month depending on if we order movies or anything else. I would assume electricity would be less in an Apt., or you might be able to find a place w/ bills paid.

It really depends on your area. In Ohio which is a similar climate.

Elec: $80-$175 higher in summer months depending on how much AC you use
Gas: $30 in summer as high as $200 in winter depends on how warm and how well insulated your apt is. I had a very poorly insulated apartment that cost me a ton in the winter.
phone: just use your cell, no one has a home phone anymore
cable: around $45-50
internet: $20-$45 depending on dialup/dsl vs. cable
Water/trash: almost always included in an apartment

Living by your own rules without dickhead stepdads: priceless

in my 3 bedroom in CA i would pay about 100 for power, and 60 for water.

ETA: its his house, either suck it up and save a shitload of cash or move out.

Kinda blows but those are your options, and really it would benifit you to get out and get your own place you will have a blast!

college is fun, especially with your own place.

I understand your situation and living on your own is a great thing. Just be sure that you don't ever have to come back and beg the prick to let you back in.

It might be better to swallow some pride, save the would be rent and utilities money in an account, and be in a great place to start your own life when you graduate.  Saving one year's rent and utl. money could easily be 10k in the bank.

Back you gotta do, whatchya gotta do sometimes.

1.) Wait until winter is over.  You'll need less electricity.
2.) Don't be surprised if you need someone to co-sign your lease; how old are you, and do you have a job?

Man, I've got it good here.

Summer time utilities:
Gas: ~$30
Electric: $20~$40 depending on A/C use.

Winter:

Gas: ~$80
Electric: $40~$70 depending on stupid space heater use.

Don't pay for water or trash.

I have about $10K in my bank account currently. But with college I am not working full time currently and only making about $1600/Month. I am 19 BTW.
