What boot is better than muck?  After my 3rd set I'm done with them . I can't even get a year out of them before they crack all up and let water in .
Statesmen use to have a good boot but can't get them anymore.

Surely someone makes a decent rubber boot

They usually last a while if I keep them washed.... I'm on 3rd pair since graduating and teaching agriculture. If I kept cow shit washed off they lasted pretty well. Check Gemplers for substitutes.

I wear mucks almost every day in hard use training duck dogs and other outdoor and hunting activities and am able to get 1 pair a year. I love the boots but just resign to the fact that they only stand up to reasonable abuse and use.

Those are probably their Chesapeake model. An uninsulated PVC boot.

Their high end insulated boots go for a lot more, some north of $250 on their site.

That is great info. Thanks for posting!

I love my Muck Boot Arctics. I get about five years out of muck boots wearing them hunting and fishing in cool weather. I hunt and fish a lot.

I’ll look into Dryshod when it’s time.

Looks like I'm not the only one that is only getting about year out of them. I've always had the Wetlands though and have never had the Artics.
Maybe the artics are more durable.
The lacrosse seemed like they would always crack right above the heal where the boot broke over.
Well I'm gonna try one of the above suggestions.
Thanks for the replys

I got a set of these...great reviews, cheap (under $20) and so far so good...

Amazon Product
  • PVC polyblend injection molded construction is seamless and 100% waterproof but flexible for greater comfort; resistant to degradation from agricultural chemicals, fertilizers and animal waste
  • CT (Comfort Technology) offers a unique scalloped top-line for easy flexing; guide along shaft allows for customized height; reinforced at critical stress points for longer wear
  • Lightweight FOOT FORM contour cushion insole provides arch and heel support, and is removable, washable and replaceable

I would say Tingley....but they went to shit a decade ago when they got bought out and outsourced.

My old ones from the 90's are still better than the newer shit, and I have tried all of them...and I can't get a year out of anything either. Cabella's and LL Bean can kiss my ass with their china shit.

There is no way in hell, I am paying over 100 bucks for Muck boots, that are clearly meant as a fashion statement to be worn in some Fucking Virginia lawyers Horse barn, or chinese garbage that doesn't fit to begin with.

If you find something that is worth a shit, I'm all ears.

I have a pair of the WoodyMax and the Artic ones that have the ice biter soles and the rubber farther up the boot. I use the Woody Max for deer and pheasant hunting and am on the second year. The artic ones I just got to replace my Artic sports that started leaking and delaminating after a couple years of mild use.

I think what caused the soles to delaminate on the one pair was that I would kneel alot with them and curl the toe for long periods of time.

A year is a good run for a daily use boot, mine barely last a season of concrete.

I just bought some Dryshod, and they seem okay, but they are much heavier and seem to run a little large. They were cheaper too.

This is how I generally rotate mine.

I buy a new pair for winter/mud use, they see little daily wear through a year, the previous pair of those gets tossed into the truck for concrete boots, and the previous concrete boots get tossed into the toolbox for backups, the previous backups get tossed into the dumpster.

A year of concrete basically destroys them but doing it this way I get a 3 year cycle out of each pair.

Those are terrible in the comfort department when pouring all day long, they tear up the outsides of my ankles.

I have lacrosse alphaburly pro 1600gram 18 inchers for hunting and general work.

I'm really liking my Ariat "muck" type boots. Very comfortable, fit better (my feet always seemed to slosh around in mucks) and I'm getting better life out of them then I have other types of rubber neoprene boots.

I've never had an issue with grip, but its probably dependent on the terrain too.  I'm mostly in snow or field/grass with some mud mixed in.  I got them more for the warmth factor.  I also don't walk a long distance to my stands, so the weight has never been a problem, either.

My first pair of Mucks lasted over 10 years of very hard use. literally wore the soles smooth. Added a pair of Tingly overshoes for a year or two to get some more life out of them but this trapped water and things got heavy.

I refused to pay the horribly overpriced going rate for Mucks, so I made do.

Last year I bought the cheap knockoff version from Tractor Supply for under $50. I have been very happy with them. I have wide feet and these actually fit better than the current Mucks. Granted I do not use and abuse these new boots like I used to, but they do get a fair amount of use.
