Has anybody seen it? It stars John Malkovitch, Simon Hunter, Thomas Jane, and Ron Perlman. Came out last year.

Any good?

It's not bad.  I didn't get how we got back to WWI trench warfare in the future, but it's worth a one time view.

Putting geek hat on
This is based on a role playing game. In the game the bad guys (basically a group of demons, think Doom) have an evil magic called Dark Symmetry that corrupts advanced technology like computers and turns them against the humans. So to fight this the human race has regressed back in technology levels, hence the "steam punk" look of the movie. I think the movie felt the public was too stupid to get the real story and their lame reason is lack of resources on the planet.

I usually like movies such as this, and went into this expecting at least decent.....I could not have been more wrong.  It was hard to make it to the crappy end.

it's not horrible. Worth watching if you're bored.
I thought Horrors of War was better

I wasn't terribly pinned to my seat after watching mutant chronicles, i've seen it once that was enough for me.

As far as horrors of war goes.....I watched the first minute of that trailer with no sound though it looked borderline meh/crap.  Then i plugged in my earbuds and realized it was the SUCK....BUT i'm probably going to watch it anyways just b/c.

I enjoyed it very much.

A real sleeper imo because I hadn't heard any hype.  Not exactly mainstream, but a great retro sci fi flick in the style of Dune, where primitive tech and future tech intermingle.

I'd watch it again. Ron Perlman is excellent in Mutant Chronicles.

I think most of the people who didn't like it are expecting flashy CGI cliche laden cinematic garbage like the new "Star Trek" prequel or "2012" in a sci fi movie.  A lot of people didn't "get" Dune either. Everyone expects different things in a good flick.

But then I prefer non mainstream shows like Firefly and Serenity, and dislike stuff like Star Gate (McGuyver), and the new BattleStar Galacatica (Starbuck is a woman? ), shows that were wildly popular, so it really is in the eye of the beholder.

Watch it and decide for yourself.
