The past couple weeks hearing Bush trying to gin up support for the sunsetting parts of the Patriot act got my brain working (not always a good thing) and I came up with this idea. All federal laws, statutes, and departmental regulations that are defacto laws must sunset in no more than ten yeas from the date of enactment. They may be re-enacted only after debate and analysis of their efficiency and efficacy of fixing the problem they were enacted to fix. I have several reasons to like this idea enough to put it out for ARfcom review and a abuse. 1. It would keep the damned governemnt tied up six ways from sunday, a congress debating to keep their old vote buying acts cant pass that many new ones. 2. I believe it would eliminate many useless or abused statutes that clog the system. 3. Would cause a bit more thoughtfulness in proposing legislature as you will know it will be reviewed, and if you have a history of promoting feel good do nothing laws to make you look good at home, you know that opponenets would use this against you. I know its a pipe dream, but sems like agood idea to me and a few others I have spoken to about it, though I will admit those I have spoken to about it a bit like preaching to the choir, when it comes to shrinking the government. Well here is my idea for conversation, priase, poke holes in it to hearts content. edit four pore spelling |
