I want to practice my EspaƱol, and due to the STUNNING lack of spanish speaking hispanic people here in Arizona, I decided to take it to Arfcom. So here are the rules: No google translate/online translator try to stick to spanish words whose english equivelant is commonly used (i.e. no antidisestablishmentarianism) always quote the person you are replying to, unless you are starting a new conversation. use the formal unless replying to someone you know ILL START Buenos tardes, ellos, ellas y tƔctico centro comercial ninjas. se llammo GoneRebel y estoy aburrido. como esta usted? |

I took Spanish for a long damn time - and forgot most of it because I don't practice.
Good idea. Now you can laugh at me as I re-tell this story: I worked at Target for roughly 5 years during high school and my first run at college. The last 2 years or so I spent doing security. I closed a lot and helped make sure the store was secure. Boring job, but whatever. Anyways, one night one of my managers comes up and goes: "Hey Nick, you speak Spanish, yeah?" "...I'm rusty....why?" "Well, we changed the hours around on the cleaning crew and they didn't get the message apparently. Can you tell them?" Yeah, that doesn't sound hard, right? I walk up and preface this by telling the guy that I'm sorry, my Spanish isn't very good, I haven't practiced lately. And then I blanked out. How do I say "the lights are going to turn off at 11:30"?! In a panic, I blurt out: "Los luces son murio a las once y media!" The guy just looked at me like
"...si..."
It came to me a few hours later that I was looking for something similar to "apage (or is it apague - either way) la luz." |

We had a teacher that tried to teach us some Spanish, I don't now why... She had us learn what she said was the most important phrase you will need if you are ever in a Spanish speaking country. It was "Where is the bathroom?". Of course I had to raise my hand and ask what good is it knowing how to say the question if you can't understand the answer. Teacher failed to see my logic... |

If someone asks me where the bathroom is, I usually point and say "over there"... unless you're blind, I don't see the problem. |
