if that is the 3 shot group at 100, you need to invest in a decent barrel That is a half inch. What should it be at 100 yards? One hole with no overlap? it is a .308 at 100 yards, you should be able to shoot a better group than that blindfolded and offhand. and yes, at that distance with a semi decent shooter behind it, it should make one jagged hole. |

if that is the 3 shot group at 100, you need to invest in a decent barrel Yeah, that's a pretty weak group, especially if there is actually $3,000 into it.... Dam! I thought it was pretty good! I never shoot long range and just getting into it. I thought 1 MOA at 100 yards was considered good?

yea my buddy who is a member of this site also is a long range shooter...generally puts around 3k into his rifle and comes out with MUCH better groups than that at 300 yds but he also loads his own ammo and the like. you either need to practice a little more or get a better barrel ( or your guns back) |

$3,000 my ass I have all the reciepts from when he bought the stuff. It is right at $2,994.00. Must've paid panic prices. I had a similar 700 set-up, and I was just over $2,000 ($1,000 of it was scope) No the gun is over a year old. I can break down the prices to the stuff when I get the reciepts in front of me. |

I just tallied it up and compared it to what I paid for many similar items well over a year ago. |

Where is everybody buying their stuff for so cheap. I see a $1000 scope, $2-300 worth of rings and rail, $300 mag system, $500 stock, $125 trigger.
So already about 2000 not including the cost of the rifle and the other things he didn't mention. So somebody please show me where i can get all that for less then $2000 please |

I have $1550 into my AAC- SD 700 build so far. Only main difference between mine and the op is his stock was $250 more than mine. I have a similar setup. I have the B&C Medalist style 2 (no LOP and comb adjustment) -- he has the style 5. Scope is Leupold Mk4 with illum ret. But I do not have detachable mag baseplate. The 700 I used was the SPS Tactical Gun was $650 Stock was something like $250 Mk4 was $900 (EE Deal -- some retail prices get up to $1400) Mk4 rings $150 Larue Base $75 Extended bolt handle with the cut/thread job was like $65 Harris Bipod w/flat stock bottom mount was maybe $100-125 Timney Trigger $128 Rough total: $2300 with another $100 in shipping (multiple orders and sending out my bolt with insurance) The detachable mag floor plate is another $250 plus an extra $200 for his model B&C Medalist......I'm assuming the dude paid full cost for his Burris so that would add $100-200 over my computed scope cost, then whatever he paid for the muzzle threading, crowning, and the brake. He's quickly close to $2900+ |
| A half inch group at 100 yards isn't anything to sneer at. That to me is indicative of adequate accuracy from the rifle itself as well as adequate marksmanship by the shooter. Sure, there are great shooters out there who can do much better. But in reality, those who can do so are probably relatively few in number. For someone that isn't a trained sniper or experienced competition shooter, that is an excellent group. And any rifle/user combo that can shoot half inch size groups at 100 yards can most certainly pose a lethal threat against man size targets out to 700 or even 800 yards. So while the op may not possess Carlos Hathcock type skills, for an average rifleman (which most of us are), I'd say that's pretty good shooting. |
|
Depending on shooter and ammo, .5 MOA (as long as it is consistent) is outstanding OP Don't let 'em get you down. Now are there out of the box guns that can do that with just a little tweaking? Yes. For less? Yes too. .5 inch 3 shot groups are pretty damn good IMHO (5 shot groups at .5 are better)
Remember that .5 MOA = a 5.25 inch group at 1,000 yards (obviously if you do everything else right). |
| scope is 950, that Bell and Carlson stock retails for 400, it's an aftermarket barrel with break, what looks like a harris bipod, timney trigger, and a DBM setup. 3 grand is not excessive unless the barrel is shitty. Unless the guy has been running at or near max loads for those 400 rounds the barrel should have several thousand rounds left in it. |
|
OP - ignore these guys giving you a hard time about the accuracy. It looks to me like the rifle is shooting just fine.
Standard M700s shoot about 3/4 MOA out of the box using high quality ammo (Fed GMM or BH). If you handload, you can get that down to .5 MOA. Those numbers are for 5 shot groups. 10-shot groups are optimal, 7-shot will get there statistically, and 3-shot groups are worthless. When posting groups in the future, use a minimum of 5-shots to give everyone a better idea of how the gun is shooting. As for the price, as long as you are happy with the trade, that is the only thing that matters. Enjoy your new piece. |

I traded one of my Arsenal SAS-M7's AK47's and a Glock 19 for this Remington 700. The original owner was into long range shooting and has $3,000 into this rig and he has 400 rounds through it. It is chambered in 308 and has a Bell and Carlson stock, timney trigger, custom made muzzle break, Burris XTR scope, Wyatt mag system and a few other things I can't remember. The below group is the first 3 shot group I got with it and is about 1/2" at 100 yards. It is my first decent long range bolt gun and should be a lot of fun! I already shot an antelope at exactly 550 yards with it. Picture soon to come. Don't worry, I still have a few other SAS-M7's and other AK's and a few Glock 19's to back me up still....LOL. So you think it was a good deal? Only complaint is it is one heavy pig! Carrying it in the field all day hunting, it got very heavy! The reason my friend traded it to me was because he just built another 700 and put $5,000 into it!!! So thins one was not good enough for him any longer...LOL!!! http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i24/SkagSig40/100_4112_zpsde452fa8.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i24/SkagSig40/100_4111_zps75386c2a.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i24/SkagSig40/100_4113_zps3860ed64.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i24/SkagSig40/100_4119_zpsbcf2f28e.jpg You need to find the right weight bullets for the barrel. I have a 700ADL stock, that can shoot groups that well and it's bone stock. Personally, I think you made a bad trade. |

Mine will do .33moa with handloads. Edit: oh, and with five shot groups, not three shot groups. |

I never shoot long range and just getting into it. I thought 1 MOA at 100 yards was considered good?
