How many here don't care if the NFL just goes away!
I enjoy watching the NFL on TV and attending the occasional game, but those greedy owners and players just piss me off. This is a sport where they give contracts for over 100 million to some players, any 2nd year player is a millionaire, they sell seats that don't exist, etc. The hell with all of them. I'll just stick with college football, the demise of the NFL would probably help return college ball to the true amateur status. |

Do you not gainfully employ yourself for the purpose of getting a return on your labor in the form of monetary compensation? Then why do you look down on athletes that are in top shape who fill stadiums seats at hundreds and thousands of dollars a pop AND help to get the TV rights sold for millions? If you had the talent they had, would you not take advantage of that? The idiot owners HAD money and were willing to spend way more than a player is worth, players came to expect it... you get a stalemate when that money dries up. Sounds like a good lesson in economics for them. |

Quoted: The nation will not tolerate a lockout. Do we remember nothing from the baseball strike? People will just leave and it'll take 10 years for the sport to recover. My money is on hockey being next. Uh, the NBA is on the verge of a lockout in the offseason, so my money's on that. |

I could really care less. actually i hope they do strike. |

Here is a different view:
The owners had the capital to buy and build the franchises. Many of them built the stadiums (some had to have taxpayer help). They invest their money into a salable product that is desired by much of the US populous. The players have talent and skills that much of the US will pay to see exhibited. They players work extremely had at their craft and many pay with their health. It is capitalism. It is no different than any other company negotiating with their workforce. Each wants a piece of the pie for the money and effort they have put into it. It just happens to be a lot of money and very public. |

enjoy watching Pro Football, but I am rooting for a long lockout. The players and cemmentators have developed an incredibly elitis attitude about their profession while their professional and moral standards have plummeted over the past 15 or so years. The constant cheating, DUIs, criminal behavior, enabling, showboating, inconsistent application of the rules, etc... has gone too far. Stop running fluff pieces about the redemption of Michael Vick. Stop with the heartfelt interviews between Bradshaw and Rapelisberger. Get real about performance enhancing drugs. Steroids get you a 4 game suspension, that's it? Shawn Merriman served a suspension for steroids and made the pro bowl the same year. Nice message there. Stop telling what gladiators you are and the sacrifices you make and how hard you train. You are paid to be in shape.
I've degenerated into ramble-fuck territory. I wasn't really sure before, but now I am. Let them collapse. |

I love football, and this is a good example of capitalism. Owners invested a lot of money to give consumers what they want. Same goes with the players, they just want a piece of the pie. Some of them are highly overpaid, and that's teh problem. Many have come to expect higher and higher pay days. There is only so much to go around. Owners want winning teams so they can charge more, so in return they overpay the best talent in an attempt to win.
I don't fault the players for trying to get as much as they can, I would do the same in their shoes. I don't fault the owners for paying what they do in an attempt to win, but If I was an owner, I would have attempted to set a cap at say, 10mil a year for the QB, and other stars etc. I definitely would not have started over paying rookies in the sum of 40-50million dollar contracts before they ever touched the field. Pay the proven veterans, make the rookies work for their paycheck. Either way, there is too much money at stake, they will have deal worked out before April 1, I think. |

My money is on hockey being next. They did it twice in a ten year span. Its around but not nearly as popular as it can be. I think the game has improved drastically since the rule changes that stemmed out of the last strike/lockout but still, the labor issues hurt the game's popularity. |

Stuck up rich kids chanting how our team of millionaires can beat your team of millionaires.
Also, the rules have just gotten to be ridiculous..I remember the glory of games back in the 90s, before players got paid millions of dollars to slam into each other, then complain of concussions and bone damage, and get things like grabbing a shirt collar turned into a personal penalty and a hefty fine. |
|
It's a business where a bunch of rich guys are negotiating with a bunch of super-rich guys. When it's in their interest to reach an agreement they will. My life will go on as normal. I'm a Browns fan. You know what a strike means to me? A misery-free Autumn. With my luck they'll settle today and we'll turn around and draft a first round quarterback. |

Anyone who is convinced there will be a lockout or a strike is only kidding themselves. We're talking about a multi-billion dollar commercial enterprise. They aren't going to put that kind of money at risk. No way, no how. There will be a football season next year, with all the star players and they will begin on schedule.

NCAA football is corrupt as hell. Take THAT! |

Alot more than players and owners losing out on money in this if there is no season.. |

Fuck the NFL and their owners. I hope they lose a shit ton of money. It has been all about money for them for YEARS now and they don't even care about the fans anymore. I hope they all go broke so we can pool our money together and buy our own team. The Arfcom Possums OPIE is the mascott right? |

Fuck 'em let them strike the whole season away. Won't matter to me. I'll find something to do.
