I was at one of the very first Pro-Mod meets, even before they called it Pro-Mod. IIRC it was in 1988 or 89 at Maryland International Raceway. It was the first time the Top Sportsman class and others stepped up. Competitors included Animal Jim, Richard Earl (Christine `58 Fury), Bill Kuhlman, and many others (not going to bother looking up the spelling). One of the aspects of that race that was not continued was that the burnout counted for points and money prizes. It was mountain motors and nitrous, and Sonny Leonard (sp?) was poised to strike it rich as the single major engine builder of all the GM competitors.

They were running high 6's at best that day.

the records above happened at MIR last night.  it was awesome racing.  the one thing that gets me tho is that the nitrous cars seem to always be behind the curve.  id also like to take this time to say tht Wally Parks died friday.  we drag racers and fans owe him a lot.

This car ran a 4.2 (in the 1/8th) on a 514 BB w/ a Big shot....5 flat N/A'd..glass body '05.  They sold it and now are building a turbo stang w/ a glass body.

Anyways. I love speed and there is no replacement for displacement!

Here's a pic of said car....(built, painted, and raced all by the same father/son duo....you should see their restorative work they do on classic mustangs and AC Cobras....they're just dieing to get ahold of my '69 and put a 408 in it.)

If you look at the '05 NMRA rule book you'll see this actual body on the front of the cover...he didn't know it at the time but he ended up getting the first '05 glass body they produced.

The quickest I've gone...not my car mind you (Fox body GT...full drag suspension, 347, Vortech and juice) was a 6.34 in the 1/8th.  Not exceptionally fast but still moving.  Like you I just can't imagine the rush.

If any of you have ever rode in a turbo car you'll get the feeling to an extent.  Unlike NA, N20, or Twin screw style cars where everything hits at once and then smooths out....turbo cars just keep pulling.
