I just found this little fellow hiding in the corner of the enclosed deck of our new cabin. He's about 3" long and is living in upstate PA.  Any idea what kind of bat it is?

Fruit bat maybe I really don't know, but that is my guess.

That's about the only one I'm sure it isn't  Fruit bats (aka Flying Foxes) are pretty big (I think they are the largest bat) and IIRC, are found primarily in very warm climates.

Not all fruit bats are big.  The flying fox is only one type of fruit bat.  Some of them are quite small.

But I doubt that's a fruit bat.

ETA: Look at the "big brown" bat.

Regular old Big Brown Bat    Not a terribly exciting name, I know.  Extremely common all over North America.  We had a bunch back home in CT that'd zing around my backyard chowing on the bugs at night.

He's GOOD though to have around.  They eat SHITLOADS of mosquitos and other annoying bugs.  Unless he seems rabid, leave him be, if you can.  Alternatively, build a bat house or three and hang them up on your property.  They're cool.

It's a brown bat of DEATH... if it bites it won't let go until sunup or a thunder clap and if you get bit, and make it to the hospital within 30 seconds, you will only have to have your shooting hand amputated.
