I know some of you playstation playing basement dwellers spend a lot of time fantasizing about rising to power in a post-apocalyptic world and becoming a great leader in the vein of the Great Humongous.

What's your apocalypse of choice?

Zombie?

Asteroid hit?

Financial meltdown?

Alien Invasion?

Obama declaring himself emperor?

Several years ago there was a short story in "The New Yorker" about an alien invasion of Earth.  The alien wasn't a life form.  It was an endless 'snow fall' from outer space of golden colored dust.

Mine is now the Republican Riots of 2016.

The opening act of the riots will occur when disgruntled delegates to the convention walk out and promptly set fire to the Cuyahoga river.

This will prompt Republicans all over the country to storm out of their houses and engage in civil unrest. Every country club in the nation will burn. They will act as the funeral pyres of the republic and the sight of the smoke rising from the fires will be etched into the psyche of every American.

It's will be all downhill from there.

I dunno.  I'm thinking some kind of financial breakdown will be the one I live to see.  Stock market crash, investors flinging themselves out of windows, retirement goes to shit, etc.

I also can't help but think that there are a lot of angry, buff dudes in prisons across the country that are gonna have to be dealt with sooner or later.

Since we have had Financial meltdowns in the past, I am going to go with a Great Depression followed by the government "never letting a crisis go to waste" and taking more of our freedoms in order to "protect us."

This financial meltdown will probably be caused by the incompetence of our own government or banking system.

"Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice

From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire

But if I had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate

To say that for destruction ice is also great and would suffice."

Either...

Or...

Pretty much the same plot... A "weaponized" virus strain goes out of control and the world goes to Hell in a hand basket. Survivors have to fend each other off to edge out a meager existence amidst the chaos of a post-Apocalyptic world. Only those strong enough will survive, but in the end, EVERYBODY DIES.

Ha-ha, yeah.

I choose currency/debt crisis that leads to financial meltdown. It's inevitable once all of the baby boomers retire. Our service sector economy with shit wages can't afford to pay for their pensions, social security and Medicare.

Attack on our power grid.  EMP possibly. Without power our society comes to grinding halt and without the basic necessities of life people get ugly.  Doesn't take long for that to happen either.  Look at Katrina and what people did and the governments response.  Guns were confiscated first off so only the criminals had them.  Lots of people would die depending on time of year due to heat or cold; elderly, sick.  What would guards do working at maximum security prisons do if they had a choice between their job or protecting their family?
