So I've been wondering lately. Some companies have made statements that there weapons have successfully completed NATO testing. Yet I can't find anything about such a process. I've found stuff about their testing of rounds which makes sense. Since NATO's members use weapons of the same caliber.

Searching for weapons testing I found this power point presentation.

http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2008/Intl/Arvidsson.pdf

Which states there is no NATO standard mag or flash hider etc. this would make sense as NATO members have never agreed to a single rifle or even magazine type. FAL, G3, M14 each with its own proprietary magazine for instance in days gone by, or today's AR, g36, L85a2, AUG, off the top of my head today which is 3 magazine types.

Is there a NATO weapons qualification test? If so any info? I'm starting to think such claims are straight bullshit when put out by companies. This question was sparked by claims by some on another forum I lurk on for info that the DT MDR is undergoing NATO testing. Also from a past thread somewhere on arfcom I remember where people stated the testing that CZ was talking about for the p01 was Czech police tests and them including that in their company literature about it having a NATO NSN number was misleading. I'm of the firm belief DT are untruthful given their handling of the MDR and the fact that their past press release about their dealings with Pakistan was an orchistrated lie for positive PR. But I'm sure there are subject matter experts who could answer the question one way or another and provide links hopefully so I can gain more knowledge on the subject.

There are agreements on standardization for many things:

So not NATO testing and approval of a weapon by the NATO entity but by individual member states of NATO? That would make sense and match with my current line of thought.

Interesting read. From a skimming it looks mostly like SOP's, markings, communication system interoperability, and ammunition specs, than say the actual weapons which makes sense because when that much funding is involved national pride and protectionism of jobs comes into effect an example would be Germany and France creating the leopard 1 and AMX 30 after parting ways on a joint tank project over disagreements of who would build which parts where.

Bump for the night crew in case someone has more knowledge to share on the subject.
