Probably a stupid question but gd always delivers and
I'm kinda sweating this. Went to the DMV to update my picture since Cut my hair. I'm going on a cruise and didn't want any issues boarding. (I'll be taking my passport and drivers license) My license is valid until 2024 but yesterday they handed Me a temporary license that expires in 20 days. It also says duplicate on it. I'll be mailed the correct expiration date and no duplicate wording correct? Hoping the temporary thing is just that. Dumb question but man, looking at that expiration date sure got me worried. |

I think the term DUPLICATE is there because you're getting a duplicate before the expiration date.
Not sure if the one they mail will say duplicate or not. I haven't lived in NC for 7 years now, but there's nothing wrong with a duplicate license. It's just as good as the original. ETA Anyone who sees the word DUPLICATE on your license will assume you lost or damaged your original license, and they may place you in the category of dumbass.

Yes the new one should have the correct date.
They say dup anytime they're issued prior to expiration, even if it's adding an endorsement. I've gone from long hair and grizzly adam's beard to bald and everything in between, never had CMP, CBP, local/state LE, liquor store clerks, bouncers, or bartenders GAF, only gas station attendants back when I smoked ever gave me any grief about ID. Enjoy your cruise. |

Quoted: Alright cool, not worried about duplicate And the mailed one should have the correct 2024 Expiration date Thanks guys I mean, they're mailing it, so it ought to be simple to correct, right? <<insert evil laugh: HERE.>> |

I recently got a new one because my old one was cracked in half. The new one does not say duplicate on it. They came out with new style of license within the past year or so, and my previously 7-digit license number now has a bunch of zeroes in front of it. Guess they're prepared for the rush of new immigrants. From the NC DMV site... ![]() |
