We finally got fiber in our area and signed up for 1gb service.  The router we have currently have is a Calix 844E-1  that is about 6 years old and was using it for the broadband net we were getting at 25mb. The previous net provider gave it to us as part of the sign on deal 6 years ago.  Calix has an extender that we put in my shop that is a steel structure 125 feet from my house to give me access in there.  It's worked fairly well.  Is  there any router set ups out there that are similar that would work better with fiber?  I'm tech dumb when it comes to this stuff.

We use an AmpiFi Mesh system that has been very solid.

I have that same calix "router".
keep in mind that is your ONT - The box your fiber comes into, it also happens to have a router built in.

You'll need to make sure the internet provider can/will turn the router in the Calix box off (bridge mode).

That's how I'm set up. All my box does is convert fiber to RJ45. From there it runs into a unfi DMP that is "my network".

The 844E he has is just a router, it doesn't have an ONT built in. It's the 844G that does both functions.
