I just bought a new Netgear Rangemax 240 wireless router, Netgear Rangemax 240 PCIMA card (for notebook), and Netgear Rangemax 240 USB wireless adapter (for PC on other end of house). The PC w/ the Netgear Rangemax 240 USB wireless adapter is working great.

The notebook is the problem. It shows it has a solid connection with the wireless router and a strong signal strength, but when trying to access the internet or email with the notebook, it acts like there is no internet connection.

Again, the PC that is hard-wired to the router and the PC w/ the USB wireless adapter is working great.

I have the router set to all defaults with no WEP or security enabled.

Any ideas?

I bet that's the problem right there.

You have to tell the computer to connect with the wireless card and not through its old connection.

What is this network wizard that you speak of? Is this something I need to do if I have more than one computer connected to the wireless router? I have run the Netgear utility on each wireless system, and they both show a solid connection with the wireless router, the notebook acts like it has no internet connection available.

Go to Control Panel, Network Connections, and on the left side you will see "Create a new connection"

Go through the wizard and add your new connection.

OR

Your wireless modem's software may have a connection manager like mine does.  If this is the case, go into the connection manager and choose the wireless network you want to connect to.

There should be a wireless modem icon on your  taskbar at the lower right, try that and see if you have a connection manager.

I've done that a dozen times (netgear connection manager). The wireless modem icon on the taskbar shows I am connected to the wireless router with a "good" connection. However, it's like the cable modem is disconnected, because it wont bring up any webpages or email (only on the notebook).

try a differnent wireless channel in the router.  you should be able to choose from 1-11.   start with 1 give it a 1 mintute to resych back up.

if you still have problems check for new drivers for the wireless card.

you can also check for firmware updates for the router from the manufactors web page

I got it fixed. All I had to do was to unplug the power to the wireless router and plug it back in.
