I am finally realizing that I need help organizing my life, job, and schedule and a little black daily minder book ain't making it.

So I am going to splurg and purchase a PDA

I know little to nothing about this except I want one that will last, has good storage for pics, maybe plays music (if that is possible), color screen and be user friendly.

I will spend up around $250 but am open to advice.

Help me out guys, you have never let me down on stuff like this

My mom loaned me her old Sony Cliq PEG-SL10 but it is only black and white and I think it doesn't have all the bells and whistles I want.

Well,

Who has a PDA? and what do you use?  And are you happy with it?

We have several: an old Palm IIIx (me), a newer Zire (hers) and a Tungsten (the kid).  We all like the Palm OS, the hotsynching ability and the intuitive menu system. I have no experience with other brands, but I give a thumbs-up to anything from Palm.

I have a Linux-based Zaurus.  It has its own keyboard and can be opened like a laptop or folded over like a Palm.  SD and CF card slots and 128mb RAM.  640x480 Silicon Graphics screen.

I love it.

I have owned several, and it is hard to recommend them as they all have different capabilities.  The best advice I can give you is to choose the functions you will use all the time, such as address book or calender and then go look at several PDAs and find the one that is the easiest to use with those functions.

For example, many windows PDAs will integrate with outlook, but Palm based ones use a standalone app to sync the data.

I've used a compaq IPAQ in a pretty harsh environment and been very pleased with them, and with service/support from the manufacturer.

If you already carry a cell you may want to consider one of the combo devices so you dont have to carry two things.   Additinoally some of the better new cells have many PDA functions built into them.

there was some discussion on this a little while ago - it might not be too useful, but there may be some info in there too

Best deals:

Dell Axim x3 = $237 (shipped)

Wi-fi, bluetooth, 64mb program 64mb storage, pocketpc windows 2003 se (allows landscape view), 300mhz Xscale.   More memory that most pda's but still not enuf for pics and music, a media card is always neccessary.  but a killer price for wi-fi pda.   If you like Palm OS better, i dont reccomend it because most palm friends are getting out of the game I'd reccomend the sony clie peg -tj37.  Saw that for 245.

I have a Tungsten E that I bought from Target for $199.00.

I get flyers from Palm about open box specials on this model for about $139.00 with full warranty and a carrying case.

Palm OS is great but it is increasingly limited as Microsoft does its usual hostile takeover.  Sony is getting out of the PDA market and Palm itself is losing serious market share.  I would stick to Windows Mobile 2003 special edition.  The PDA's that use this are for the most part more powerful and have a better array of software.
