I was looking for really the best knife for the cheap. I was looking at some benchmade and spider co. I like them alot and there pretty stong and durable. What to yall think |
|
Benchmade Griptillian/Mini Griptillian
Spyderco Endura/Delica Those are in my opinion the best buys in the knife world. Kershaw has some offerings in that range that are very good, but the ones listed above have better blade steel (unless something has changed since I last looked, 13CrMoV is what kershaw was using. Spyderco is VG-10 and Benchmade is 154CM on those blades) |
|
Gerber Rex Applegate has a nice line of combat folders with pocket clip, carried one for ten years +
http://www.gerbertools.com/search.aspx?d=1&m=100000 Gerbers are made in the USA, Benchmade has off shored most of their line regrettably. |

Benchmade 710 This is my EDC, and definately one I'd agree with. I just listed the other ones above as he stated he was looking for a "value" knife. to me the 710 is every bit worth the $100+ they run, but if I was looking for the best knife for a budget, there are cheaper offerings that give up VERY little in performance. You've got your brands mixed up here. Most Gerbers are made in china now, they still make some of the larger fixed blades and a couple folders here, but the majority of their line is chinese crap these days. Red box (benchmade budget) line is made mostly in taiwan and are very well made blades. They are head and feet above what one thinks of when they think of "overseas" manufactured knives. The Black, Blue and Gold class are still 100% american made. For that matter, the Spyderco's I mentioned are made in Seki City, Japan |
| Mini Griptillian in D2 steel. Cabella's carries them. These are an awesome knife. The higher end Benchmade 960 Osborne in D2 is the knife I carry every day now. When I was a mechanic, I used the mini Griptillian for a good number of years. The only problem I ever had was that the clip wore out my pants. The D2 steel is amazingly tuff stuff. It really does hold an edge for a hell of a lot of abuse. The 960 Osborne is easier on the pants, and even slicker to operate, but it's$$$. |

I was introduced to this knife by kaizer27 when I worked for him about 6 months ago. I liked it so much it was what I bought for my groomsmen when I got married. Can be had for about $35

Get what ever knife you want with the following steel (blade)in Folders if not one of these 3 move along. S30V D2 154CM VG-10! It's on par with 154CM, and has a slightly finer carbide structure. (I've got all the others + S60V, ZDP-189, M2, INFI, and a myriad of other "exotic" steel, VG-10 is good stuff) |

S30V is a powder metallurgy based martansitic stainless steel. I have carried it every day (and used it for EVERYTHING) for the past three years. It holds an edge sharp enough to shave with, and has never let me down. Here's a picture if you're interested: http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=920650 |

What is the use and/or purpose for this knife? Tool? Self defense? Open boxes? Clean finger nails? Clean toe nails? Gut deer? Skin deer? All of the above? Some of the above? Most of the above? 1, 3 and 5 of the above? lets see here, tool, gut deer, self defence, and of course look good. |

I've got recommendations all through the price range .
Are you set on a folder or would a smallish fixed blade work too? |

I just picked up a couple of EDC's from this guy...... http://www.handleyknives.com/available.html |

does anyone know who makes the defense knife the goes on your ring finger like a brass knuckle? CRKT makes a folder with a big finger hole in the end of it, i don't know the model though The Emerson karambit has a single hole. HAK's go around your index and middle finger (Hide Away Knife) |

I carried a swiss army knife all through high school, and then found a Benchmade Mini Griptillian on a Scout trip. Best knife I've owned, but when I lost it and went to replace it, I chose to go cheap: CRKT M16. The blade is reasonable thick, it takes an edge well, doesn't hold it as well as I'd like, and the Carson Flipper is hands down the best method of one handed opening ever invented. And it's only $40. The only downsides are the not as high quality steel, and the comparitivly weak locking system. But if all you ever plan to use the knife for is killing boxes, I really don't care how strong the lock is.
So basicly, if you want to drop the cash, need a knife that will never, ever let you down, and trust yourself not to loose it, drink the butterfly kool-aid, and get a Benchmade Mini Griptillian. If you want a knife that you can use to cut boxes, and don't really care if you loose, CRKT M-16 series. |

I like these knives. I carry the Kershaw daily.
CRKT Pazoda $20 Smaller Pazoda Kershaw Chive Red |

For a pretty good knife that won't break the bank, I've been happy with the Spyderco Delica.
It's reasonably robust, holds an edge OK, and I really like the large thumbhole opening. It's lightweight and unobtrusive when carried in my front pocket. The blade is long enough to be of use should I ever need it for self defense. I've carried one literally every day for over ten years now. |

Case or Eye Brand Sodbuster or Sodbuster Jr. Forget all of the tactical bullshit, there is a reason that you see all of the "good old boys" and rednecks carrying a Case knife. They use them for everything from skinning deer and hogs to cutting rope and tape. Those people know a good knife when they see it. |
