I currently have an Olympus and it is OK but the problem I have is that there is a delay from when you press the button til when the picture is actually taken. Camera is over 4 years old. It is quite hard to get good pics of the dog with this delay.

I have no preference as to manufacturer I just do not want that delay.

Also I am not looking to spend over $300.

Can anyone help me out.

Thanks in advance

I don't know of any non-SLR digicam that doesn't have a delay... but since I don't really use them often, I can't say that I am the authority on them.

In the Canon lineup, you can get into an OLD DSLR (original Drebel and/or 10D) at KEH.com for at/under $200, which would leave you about $100 to buy a lens. I didn't check to see whether the $200 ones came with charger, but I'd expect that they may be missing some parts... they'll quite possibly be a little worse for the wear at that price point, as well.

That may not be what you're looking for... but that's the only thing I know of to recommend in that price range.

If you're comfortable buying used from a person (instead of a used equipment company like KEH), you might try the forums over at fredmiranda. You can usually get things a bit cheaper there. You ::might:: be able to find a 20D (big step up from the rebel/10D, IMO) and stay in your budget, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.
