Mine just went TU.  Can't decide between a laptop or tower.  If I go with a tower, is it worth having someone build it (I know some guys in our IS department) or just buy one outright? This computer is mostly for surfing, moderate word processing, storing pics and music.

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

Depends on how mobile you need it to be.

What's your budget?

Probably cheaper to buy one vs build. Only reason I build is to use higher quality (more expensive) parts. Your IS guy isn't going to want to support it either.

I'd buy a laptop for less than $500 and plug your monitor/mouse/keyboard into it.

Build your own is exactly that so if you're not building it's not worth it.

Seriously. Build it yourself.

I couldn't have known less about it when I did my first build.

A little time on the internet combined with Newegg (or the place of your choice) and you have a new rig that is built by you, in accordance with your needs and not
a kilobyte of all the extra bullshit software you get when you buy from Dell.

Case, motherboard, CPU, GPU (if you want), power supply, memory, operating system, mouse / keyboard and a optical drive. Done.

A few hours later, new rig built by you.

And it's fun.
