Spyware Protect 2009 installs itself on the infected computer by itself, and attempts to have the actual "program" installed on the computer by the user, after receiving payment of $49.95. However, the viruses that it claims are on your computer are nonexistent, and the real virus is what you are paying to install on your computer.
While the virus is mainly harmless to your computer, it can disable antivirus programs, thus leaving computers vulnerable to other attacks. What is actually installed on your computer after purchase may be a virus as well. Most of the damage done is financially, as the computer user has not only paid the attacker nearly $50 to install the useless program, but also has given them vital personal information, which could then be used for identity theft. The first step towards defeating the virus is to use antivirus software such as Windows Defender or Avast. If this doesn't work, you can remove the virus manually, by deleting processes related to "sysguard" in the task manager, and permanently removing files and registry entries that are title with some variant of the "sysguard" name. My wifes laptop (XP) got infected with Spyware protect 2009 recently. It was so riddled with crap running everywhere that I could not even load from a thumbdrive or pull anything off the drive. I nuked it from orbit and reimaged because I was too worried about finding everything. I couldn't restore, boot in safe mode, load from a thumbdrive, get out to the net, and it had started to randomly remap my keyboard. Not sure what all it got hit with but spyware protect was the first indication. |

Just barely beat me to it. I did this exact thing to clear it from a laptop of mine. It's a PITA, but it works. Be extremely careful when you edit the registry. If you mess up, I'm pretty sure you will make your computer poop on itself. -X |

( No I was not even looking at porn ). No problem. Did you recently install an "Important" video codec? You wouldn't believe how many of these infections I remove for people around here. That program just scans for all of the variations of the trojan and automates the removal process for you. |

| Its possible it could have spread, or was a modified version that it doesn't remove. The best way to get rid of it is to manually remove it, but that isn't an option for the average computer user. Out of the at least 100 of these infections I have removed with this tool, none of them have came back so far. |
| I used this, free from Microsoft....http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx |
| Reinstall windows - get AVG or avast installed. Stop going to porn sitse, dont open spam e-mail especially if there is an attachment. Dont go to flash game sites. I know - It'd be kind of the last ditch efford - I hate having to reinstall everything. But its always my own fault when I have to. like last time I forgot to turn my firewall/antivirus protection back on when trying to figure out why Cod4 wasnt letting me stay connected to servers (punkbuster issue). Then bam - virus. I need to buy another hdd myself to take my own advise.... didn't see what you underlined at first - porn is what gets me in trouble usually.

now do this:
If you have Norton, uninstall it. Its garbage unless you are running the server edition, which you are not! If you have any Spyware removal software at all, uninstall it now. Most of the Spyware removal programs are indeed spyware themselves! Download, Install and update these free Programs. Then Run Windows Update. Firefox 3 (use this to surf the net, not Internet explorer) No Script add on (follow usage instructions, this program is about PREVENTION so you dont get anymore spyware, not for beginers) CCleaner (run once a week to clear your cache and other junk) Avast! 4 free (a free and fast virus scanner) And If you must use spyware detector programs, then use these approved versions: the real MALWAREBYTES can be found here and is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED the real ADAWARE can be found here, use MALWAREBYTES instead of this the real Spybot SD can be found here, use MALWAREBYTES instead of this |

Find old computer and install second NIC if necessary. Then download and install free software and place computer between internet connection and internal network. Step two, profits!
