I get a call from the house. My eight year old and his buddy are, as we speak, in the process of building a go-cart out of mommies shoe boxes. They removed all her shoes and started construction in the living room. They apparently have made some sort of tank out of boxes that seems to hold water ok my son said to me My wife is at work and wont find out til later. I instructed them over the phone to cease construction and to wait til I get home tonight. They asked if I could bring some wheels home and something to steer with. The innocence of youth.
Anyway I need some web links to wooden go-kart plans or kits.

I wish I was eight years old again

I'm betting the "Dangerous Book for Boys" has just what you need; I haven't looked throught the new book, but I'm familiar with the books it's based on.  In bookstores now.

Barring that, get some scrap 3/8 or 1/2 ply, some wheel barrow wheels, about 10 feet of rope, and aobut 10 or 12 feet of 2X boards and just put a coaster together.  Figure it out as you go, and have a ball.

My Dad helped us build a basic cart we/he called a "Doodle Bug".

It was 3 2x4's, a rope and wheels from a Radio Flyer wagon.

Shaped like this: I---I

Nail a 3" board to the end of a 4' board. Drill the center of the other end of the 4' and another 3' board and put a bolt and washers through it so it swivels. Mount wheels at the corners and a seat board. Tie a rope at the ends of the front swiveling board to steer.

Cheap, tough and fun on long hills. We wore out more than one.
