Ok, I want to access gamespy but my wireless router is preventing me.  This is the interface of my Netgear router:

The next image is when I click on "add service".  The service name is not a problem.  But it wont let me get by without entering a triggering port #.  What do I enter here???  Also, what should I put for my starting and ending ports???:

The colored band is the port that is trying to transmit information while gamespy is running.  Here it is:

Someone please help...

you need to go to the port forwarding page....

you also willl need to enable it on your software firewall as well the one with the arrows pointing up and down.... or just close the program!

i've not heard a router blocking it i bets its your software firewall

well, sygate does not control individual ports- just the programs that access.  Yes, I already allowed gamespy to access through sygate.

The only other option left is my firewall in my router....

And why would I use port forwarding?  and what numbers should i be entering to allow ports?

The port numbers that gamespy uses.

I know they have them on their website....

www.gamespyarcade.com/support/firewalls.shtml

down on the page they are:

6667 (IRC)
3783 (Voice Chat Port)
27900 (Master Server UDP Heartbeat)
28900 (Master Server List Request)
29900 (GP Connection Manager)
29901 (GP Search Manager)
13139 (Custom UDP Pings)
6515 (Dplay UDP)
6500 (Query Port)

I think I tried this before...Ill try again and report back...

I did and I still cannot connect.....

Ok, I have DMZ set up, software firewall app. is exited, anti virus auto scan is disabled.

Could it be that my ISP is blocking these from apps. connecting???

WTF?

i would sugggest uninstalling any software firewallz you have installed. (to troubleshoot)

if you are running service pack 2  disable the windoz firewall as well.      reboot and try again

you might contact netgear as well there could be a firmware update for your router that could resolve this
12/7/2006 4:33:52 AM EDT
[#10]
have you opened the ports in the netgear firewall? i'm guessing you would do this through the Content Filtering/Block Services area. also, i'm not familiar with gamespy, but i don't think port triggering is where you want to be. and if you have those same ports configured to forward and trigger neither will work properly.

unless you know otherwise, delete all the stuff you entered into the triggering portmap table. open the ports gamespy needs in the firewall.

make sure your machine firewall has the right ports open as well. with xp, i believe the firewall will not allow access to closed ports even when turned off.

Ill try this when I get home.  I already installed the latest firmware update on the router.

now that i think about it it could be your dsl modem as well(IF you have dsl).   alot of dsl modems act as routers  therefore having a basic firewall enabled.

have you tried hardwiring directly to your dsl or cable modem to see if it works then?

Cable.  No I havent done that either, but thought about it.

The reason I havent done it is because it shuts down the rest of my network.  Not a biggie, but also the reason why I havent been motivated to do it yet.....

ok, ran a direct path right to cable modem....nothing.

I will now try to enable specific ports through MS firewall......

HMMMM uninstall peerguardian

PeerGuardian and PeerGuardian 2 are free and open source programs developed by Phoenix Labs. They are capable of blocking incoming and outgoing connections based on IP blocklists. Their purpose is to block several organizations, including the RIAA and MPAA while using filesharing networks such as FastTrack and BitTorrent. The system is also capable of blocking advertising, spyware, government and educational ranges, depending upon user preferences.
