I was gifted two guns and I just needed some help on identifying what they are. One is a Remington 1100 but I can't figure out its year of manufacture and the other is a shotgun that has no numbers or markings on it.

Cool double barreled hammer gun...Will need to take it apart though to ID I bet.

There should be some markings on the barrel, but if you take it apart, there will be proof marks on the barrel flats and receiver flats.

I just went through this recently with some old Belgian and German SxS double guns

look on the receiver under the barrels for markings... looks like it might be L.C. Smith

Take the foreend off the double barrel.

Open the action.

Remove the barrels from the action.

Check the water table (flat area on action) and the bottom surface of the barrels where it meets the water table (breech end).

Look for proof marks.  That will at least give you a chance at identifying the country of origin.

It is a sidelock, but I don't think it's a Smith.

One of them belonged to Pahoo-Ka-Ta-Wah.

Ask Old_Painless about who he is.

On Remingtons there is a code on the barrel, series of letters, that can be decoded to tell you what year it was made. Easy to find on Google.

Belgian proof marks.  The date can be sorted out from the proof marks, or at minimum narrowed down to a few years from the Liege stamp.

That's a pretty nice looking old gun except for the barrels.  Better than I expected when I saw the bottoms first.

That 1100 looks strikingly like my grandfathers.  Probably 60's vintage by my wild ass guess.

If the double has Belgium proofs and no makers name people generally just refer to it as a
Belgium guild gun - most likely made in Liege.

Just went ahead and called Remington and it's a 1972. What do those Belgium shotguns usually go for?

Looks like a parron and make before 1893, also barrels failed proof and reworked?
