This may be long; bear with me.
I would like to upgrade my current  with a plasma or LCD, whichever is better.  I am also wondering about hooking up internet to the TV.  I would like to do away with cable completely and just get movies and tv off the internet.  The only shows that are watched on out TV is Disney and Nick for the kids, and the occasional DVD.  I already have wireless internet in the house.  I also have an upstairs room with no cable outlet and no attic access, so it would be great to get a signal up there as well.  I am thinking about an xbox or ps3 also.  I'm not looking to blow away the neighbors with sound or a huge screen, just would like something more modern, and to get rid of the cable, since we dont watch too many channels.  Is this technically or economically possible?

Are you wanting a TV with a built-in browser and a few apps like Netflix?  Samsung has that.  Or do you want to download files for later viewing.  You can download on a PC and use a PS3 or XBOX as a media player and your PC as a storage server.  If you go with the latter, then the TV features don't really matter.  Find one that fits your budget and has enough inputs for current and future equipment.  Don't buy based on what looks good in the show room.  When you get home and properly calibrate it, it will look different.  After calibration, they all look great.  You did plan on calibrating didn't you?  Would you buy a gun and not sight it in?  Same concept.
