I finally picked up a laptop from a friend, and I am having a few connection problems.  I mainly use it on campus, as it has a wireless card and I can access the local wireless network.  The first issue is the computer (Dell Inspiron B130) doesn't automatically pick up wireless signals.  Each time I turn the computer off or on, I have to go through the Run menu and run a "%systemsupport\system32" function, start Wireless Zero, and then change the options to access the local wireless feed.  How do I change this so it automatically picks up the feed?

The second issue concerns using a hard connection (LAN cable).  I can plug the cable in at work, and the computer will show connection and give the connection speed.  However, I cannot get on the internet and I have tried going through the LAN option under the internet options in tools.  It seems as though the computer is not recognizing the connection and is not trying to access the internet through the LAN cable connection.  Any ideas?

IF i were you, i would reinstall windows.

This should be done at least once a year anyway, and it sound's like it's never been done.

To fix the wireless zero configuation service:

right click on "my computer" click "manage"

Find the services,

find the "wireless zero configuation service"

right click on it and select properties.  click around till you find the startup options, make sure it's set to automatic.

Your work may be preventing internet access if you computer doesn't have a standard name.  Where I work, if the computer name doesn't start with a certain capital letter, access severely restricted.

Right-click my computer, select properties.  It's under the "computer name" tab.

The problem is with my computer.  I've tried my girlfriend's computer, and it automatically connects when you plug in the LAN without any prompts (its an HP).  Its just mine won't...
