So i want to be a MP..... so i took a Asvab today and scored a 70

my recruiter said i can do so much more with that score and mentioned i could go into a tech or intelligence field and then go in the private sector making some nice money when i get out

now im considering different MOS's  looks like i qualify almost every mos out there

can you give me some suggestions with a bright future after my service

thanks

my advice, do what you want to do, not what the recruiter sells you on.

i fucked up and followed the recruiter's advice, and had a very unhappy term in the navy.

had i been given a do-over, i would have done things the way i wanted and would likely still be in today.

i qualified for every rate (MOS) in the navy, but had my heart set on a particular one. The recruiter talked me into something that kinda sounded the same but had all sorts of cool buzz words, security clearances and whatnot.

If you want to be a MP, and perhaps intend to be in LE after you get out (or even FBI/US marshals, BP, etc) DO IT!

Just because you have an MOS that MIGHT help you in civilian life, nothing is guaranteed.

Keep in mind that the emphasis in the Army for MPs has shifted from Law Enforcement somewhat to "field MP" stuff. Convoy escorts, guarding VIPs, POW ops, etc.

Still, I think it's a pretty cool field. Haven't regretted it at all. PM me with if you have any questions.

do what YOU want to do.  It's your career not theirs.

I got a 96 on my ASVAB with my GT score being 132 and the rest of my line scores being 134.  I can do whatever the hell I want with those scores really.  I had the entire artillery MOS open to me as well as most of communications and intelligence...However there's only one thing I want to be, Infantry.......That said I'm enlisting as an 18X

<eta> when I decide to get out or start up a civilian career I'm going to be going into law enforcement.  I've been trying to find a department who's hiring back home for the last 6 months and I've not had any luck so far.  Only two things I've ever wanted to do since I was a kid was be a solider or be an officer, I figure I've got nothing holding me in one place and life is way to short to not follow your dreams.  The last thing I want to be doing is as an old man on my death bed and regret not serving.

Don't call me sir....I've not earned that level of respect from anyone yet , and I plan to keep working for a living .  LOL college degree be damned

I've got an application with NCIS in process right now, and I'll probably hear back from them for an interview before I graduate...but as cool as that job is, it's still missing something.  I can't quite explain what I mean by that but if your drive to serve your country is strong enough then you probably know what I'm talking about.  All of the other gov jobs I've got applications in with sound cool but they all seem to be missing something or I can't really see myself enjoying that kind of work.  I've decided already that I'm enlisting, but right now I'm more curious to see if they will accept my applications which is the only reason I've not withdrawn them yet.  Kinda hard for me to believe that any of these federal law enforcement agencies would even consider hiring a 21yr old college grad with little to no work experience or any job related training. If I wanted to keep working in the outdoor recreation industry I'd be set for life, I've got tons of contacts from when I was a junior pro-kayaker back in high school and I'm fairly well known back home as well since my boss/mentor/best friend is sorta the go to guy for all of Eastern PA as far as kayaking goes especially if it involves anything to do with the ACA or instruction.
