Friend of mine is trying to hook me up with her boyfriends sister. We have texted back and forth the last couple days, and she seems like she has a really awesome personality, and we both agreed we needed to meet and go out.

I haven't been on a date in over 11 years, and that's because I got asked out

I'm looking for some suggestions on what to get her. This will be our first time meeting. The gentleman in me is telling me flowers, but that just seems so damn cliche' and something every swinging joe does. Well I'm unique, and need to outdo the norm, but I gotta tell ya, I'm pretty rusty and my creative side is a little dulled.

What are some things that would make a guy stand out if he brought for you on a first date?

Where/what are y'all doing on your first date?

Mabye it's because you haven't been on a date in 11 years but....

You aren't supposed to bring her anything on a first date.

This on does   May be old fashioned, but it feels like the proper thing to do.  Also to buy, even though she makes more than double what I do

Not sure.  I'm thinking dinner, maybe a hockey game.  She mentioned in text conversation that she loved hockey and loved to dance, but I figure catching a redwings game on the TV at the titty bar would be a little tacky.  Although, from our conversations, she'd probably go for that.  Real down to earth fun to be around person.

I can only speak for myself here, but I really enjoyed getting flowers on a first date. I am a tad on the old-fashioned side and I like to be courted. Just make sure the flowers aren't romantic and that they are fresh, that way they'll last a few days.

Well thank you!  Glad i'm not completely off my rocker.

Now that the shock of a first date gift is over, I'll agree with this.

The one time I can remember a guy getting me anything it was a planter of live Gazenias.  They are one of my favorite flowers, and just thinking back, I still wonder how he did that.

It is a dieing art form that I think really needs to be brought back.

I mentioned to her that it sounded like she needed a good foot rub and a good nights sleep.  She tells me nobody has ever rubbed her feet

I told her she just hasn't found the right guy or she's got nast hooves

(That's probably my best quality.  I have a fun personality, and usually make people laugh- next to honesty and integrity)

I'm a romantic type of guy.  The last date thing for 11 years was because I was married.  Perfect marriage.  Never really fought, had great communication.

But once a woman has it in her mind that she *thinks you may have cheated... downhill full steam

So here I am 3 years later from being seperated, and it's time to brush up on the skills.  Girl has a good head on her shoulders, good career...  hard to find motivated people anymore.
