So I have been reluctantly been dragged into this technological world and need some advice. I just picked up an ipod 80gb Classic and have spent the last 3 mornings down loading cds onto itunes, a chore I would care not to repeat. I have been looking around and see that I could back up to a powered external hard drive, but quite frankly I don't think I need 100+GB of storage (I have about 20GB of music.) I have also seen flash drives that are 20+GB of storage and that seems to me like a more piratical way of backing up my music collection.

I really don't know much about any of this stuff so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

yeah you have 20 gb of music NOW

my suggestion buy one of these seagate   install the software,  tell the software what to backup.   and you will have a 2nd copy of all your data.

friends don't let friends use thumb drives as backup sources

they do have two different versions of the product i listed ,  the PRO version has the automatic backup softwware.  the non pro doesn't

figure out what size you think you need, then quadruple it.

And hell, USB 2.0 harddrives are so cheap now, you might as well get a 500gb drive...they are only about $100. I like Western Digital and Seagate. Seagate has an 8 yr warranty!

I do not recommend you get a flash based disk, as they are too slow.

here are a couple good ones:

I just bought one of those to use as a hot backup for my Mac mini (using SuperDuper). Works great!

I just bought a LaCie 750 GB external drive.  What I love about it is the speed.  I have a MacBook pro, so I'm using the FireWire 800 interface and it smokes.

It has USB 2.0, Firewire400, Firewire800 and ESATA connections, so it's super-flexible.
