So this past semester I entered the EMS/Paramedic degree program at my local college. Unfortunately, due to real life circumstances I managed to complete everything for the EMT-B and Ops but one clinical and my NREMT skills. So I talk to my professor and get the green light to retake the course in the Spring and re-registered about two weeks ago. Fast forward to earlier this afternoon I check my school email and learn my GPA, likely thanks to A&P (a requirement for the degree program...not EMT-B), was too low and I won't be eligible for future financial aid unless I successfully appeal. The problem is none of my circumstances seem to meet eligibility for appeal.
I originally entered the degree program because I am considering medic, but also because financial aid wouldn't cover just the EMT-B and I had no other way to pay. So now I have to raise my GPA to be eligible for financial aid, but I need financial aid to pay for the courses needed to raise my GPA to qualify for financial aid. Merry Christmas to me....FML |

Consider yourself luck that you didn't waste a lot of time on the paramedic track and switch to nursing.
You can probably find some one to pay for it because you are a guy. It's healthier for you over time. You can move around the country or the world with a lot less hassle. You can make a LOT more money. In the right settings it's a lot more technically interesting. When you get bored in one area it's a lot simpler to move to a different one. I made the mistake of going the paramedic route and talked my wife into nursing. She defiantly went the better route. |

Since when is EMT-B expensive? ![]() Well, at the time I enrolled originally I didn't have the $1200 extra just sitting around to pay for just tuition....bills and whatnot. As far as GPA. To pass the course I was required to pass all tests with a min of 80% and FISDAP with 68% (scored 72% on the FISDAP). Did that. The problem this time around was completing hands on skills which had to be signed off 5x by peers then once by instructors. Those were only able to be done outside of class which I was unable to get done. Then I missed one clinical. According to program policy if either one isn't completed the highest grade I could receive was a D (70% is passing). Then in anatomy my test grades were too low in the end which ended up severely dropping my grade to a D for that course as well. Ultimately, it put me at a tenth of a point below what the college says is satisfactory. |

get a grant... or maybe YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE A BETTER FUCKING JOB IN SCHOOL! I work 50-80 hours a week and maintain a 3.9. I stay up late into morning to make sure I don't turn in shitty work and (almost) everything is on time... don't even feel bad for you. Quoted:

Start a go fund me account My wife suggested that....I said no. I might as well be standing on a street corner with a cardboard sign asking for change. Then the next thing you know I'll be applying for food stamps, then going and getting a free cell phone which will lead to burning down a neighborhood rioting for justice. Not really my style |

This is from the HMFIC of an English class, I saved it because it was fan-fucking-tastic. Does it apply to you? Hello Class— As I read through your week three peer reviews and rough draft self-evaluations, I realized that you are all about ready to begin week one of this class. I don’t know whose fault that is: you advisers’ for placing you in a course without prior experience in college level writing? ; The sometimes awkward way the course was designed or the sometimes incomplete and inadequate assignment instructions? My weekly guidance, announcements, feedback comments and individual notes to you? ; Or by your lack of effort in the beginning of the course to study and understand the reading assignments, the assignment instructions, guidance, announcements and feedback on your assignments. Maybe it is a combination of all these things. There is, however, strong evidence that shows you did not spend enough time each week in the various learning categories, such as reading assignments, guidance, announcements, instructions and discussions. Each student’s activity, measured in minutes, is recorded in each category. Most of you spent less than the average time in all of those categories, and although this is not a perfect indicator of achievement, performance and grades, it is reasonably accurate. The more time students spend studying, the higher their performance and the higher their grades. You may recall reading in one of my guidance or announcements that I cannot teach students anything; I can however, with their help, create an environment in which learning can take place. The learning part is up to you. I know college level learning is not easy. By the same token, basic or 100 and 200 level college courses are not all that hard. In general, eighth grade skills in reading, writing and computation are adequate for beginning college courses. The definition of "student” is one who studies. The definition of "scholar” is one who learns and continues to learn. If we do not master the first part, we will not reach the second. That, of course, is up to each of us. In closing, my comments are not meant to "belittle” you or "put you down.” They are meant as a friendly KITA (Kick-in-the-‘butt’). Everything of value in life requires effort to obtain and keep. If college was easy, everyone would have a degree or two—of course, they would mean very little and have little value. Think about it and give yourself a loving KITA and a pat on the back. didn't pay Well, I've accepted responsibilities for what I did or didn't do in my classes. Discussing the issues with my professor allowed me to take a D as opposed to an F and return next semester. As I said I wasn't asking for sympathy, it is GD after all, only venting. FWIW in my EMS courses I passed all the traditional class material and tests. My only problem was not having time, due to outside commitments, to complete hands on skills for the National Registry test and missing one clinical. But that's a moot point now. |

Why skip basic/advanced and go straight to medic? don't you want field experience first? I start advanced next month, can't wait! We're not allowed to skip EMT and go straight to medic, luckily. I think EMS is better for it that way. I wasn't skipping EMT-B....I don't think anyone can. I was enrolled in an AAS EMS degree program (from basic to medic), otherwise it's just certifications. |

Quoted: Clever....you're clever. Did you think of that all by yourself? Quoted: Quoted: Quoted: And? Hell I'm not even a paying member here....what do I care if I get another warning or a ban? I found your problem, it's you! Clever....you're clever. Did you think of that all by yourself? That's a weak rebuttal
