l know l'm being a puss, but the back neighbors have a huge cottonwood tree that drops many limbs onto our property. I'm sick of it. Can l legally just through them over the fence into their yard? Burning is a big no no. But we get charged for yard waste.

how about ask them if you can do that since it is their tree.

How about talking to them.

I would just throw them over. Or just go cut the limbs that are over your side off the tree and if he has an issue piss on him be his family...

chop the limbs on your side
pay for removal
move passed being a puss

throw limbs on his side instead of befriending him.

I have a similar scenario with a rear neighbors cotton wood, except I don't worry about what to do with the limbs (throw in a pile, tie, haul to curb).  Least I can do for the bit of shade it give my yard.

I have a problem with it being pretty much on the property line, the previous owners of my property allowing the privacy fence to be boxed out 18" onto my side of the fence to allow the tree to grow and the biggest issue is the damn thing is a female cottonwood so the "cotton" is a pain in the ass when it sheds.  After about 15 foot up, the trunk is completely on my side of the property line.

I contemplate sawing off everything on my side of the line sometimes (meaning he's left with a tall stump in his back yard).  It's healthy now but I can see this being an issue when it gets older and starts to die.

No, I'm not going to talk to him about it.  He's weird.  Used to have large parties late into the night, when I used to leave for work at 7am he would often be in his backyard on the phone sounding line someone coming out of the bar at 2am, longer term residents say he's always there due to house arrest.. and the worst, he's such a dumb ass, he leaves his many many flood light on 24hrs a day (this I may talk to him about).

On a positive note, his kids that occasional are there keep gifting my kid with toys they can's seem to keep on there side of the fence.

Cut the branches, but do not throw them in the neighbor's yard. Dispose if them yourself.

What's he supposed to talk to him about?  "Um, sir, it seem some of your branches are falling onto my property, would you mind coming over once a week to pick them up or cut your tree down?"

Another way to deal with it if very close would be to EDIT:  may be illegal under certain circumstances in some states. Google should give you an answer.

Are you good at woodworking?

Turn all the fallen limbs into sex toys.  Put big red bows on them and throw them back into their yard.  Surely the best course of action.

Out here you can trim back to the property line.

I have a grapevine in my backyard that grows wild in the summer. I keep it trimmed back because I don't want it to tear down the fence, however it grows so fast that it occasionally grows over the fence practically overnight.

So my CUNT neighbor cuts them off and throws them over the fence into my yard.  I don't give a fuck, takes me 1 minute to pick them up and put them in the bin.  Also saves me the time to cut them. He's still a CUNT.

Read into that what you will.

I had a tree at the property line near the street between the walk and the curb (easement).

My neighbor is a good guy but he would always comment about "my leaves" in his yard. One day I was home and looked out and he blew all the leaves in his yard onto my front lawn. I made acomment to a neighbor and of course it got back to him and he denied it and got shitty about it every time he raked leaves after that.

Last summer the city sent out fliers offering to take down any nuisance trees. I had them cut that 30' tall fucker down and haul it away

All he does now is bitch about how hot his house is inside without the shade.

You should have taken the opportunity to apologize to him about how bad you felt about him having to rake the leaves, then squeak in the question "has your cooling bill gone up any?"

You can't toss the limbs back over the fence, but you can trim the part of the tree that overhangs your property line.  Just so long as you don't kill the tree.

Express your issue verbally
If neighbor tells you to go scratch than chuck fallen limbs over the fence.
If neighbor bitches cut every limb that is in your airspace and chuck over fence..

My brother's neighbor's tree hung over his driveway and dropped a lot of crap on his cars. He spoke with the neighbor and told him he was going to have a tree guy trim the branches hanging over his driveway. The neighbor was polite and cordial and thanked my brother for telling him in advance. two weeks after my brother paid to have the neighbor's tree trimmed, the neighbor had the tree taken down.

You can generally cut back any branches to the property line, but if you kill the tree they can come after you.
A tree that has a stump even touching a property line is often shared by the two owners.

Urban area:  property's owner's responsibility to trim.

Ask him first if you want to trim it yourself.

Done it on large bushes in excess, took two extremely high doses.  Have tried to kill a wisteria on my side, stuff keeps growing back.
