It used to be ok and had a decent selection. Now? Almost nothing is available anymore.

Getting ready to cancel. What replaced it?

I cancelled. I watched everything that was good in the first two months I had it.

Whatever, I'll keep my subscription.

I love Netflix. One of us is picky as hell.

The wife loves it. Me? Meh. All the good movies are unavailable. Oh well... we had a tendancy if getting redbox, but not taking it back for a few days. So we break even.

Wait, are you saying their selection is shrinking? I find that hard to believe.
7/7/2011 6:33:58 PM EDT

I thought that at the beginning, but I'm always finding interesting stuff to watch.  Definitely worth the $8.

FSOB keeps cutting out on us and the picture is medium quality... Thanks NetFlix for letting me see the light and go back to rabbit ears, much more dependable...

Nothing really replaced it as far as I know.

It tried to replace torrents as well as rapidshare and other file share services, but never really caught on (at least in ontario)

I like Netflix. They're slowly getting more and more to watch instantly, so eventually most everything should be on there.

My wife and I started using Hulu+. What's nice about it is there's a lot of currently running shows so we got rid of cable in favor of watching new shows on demand.

$10 for Netflix and $8 for Hulu+ is a ton better than $60/mo cable.
7/7/2011 6:42:39 PM EDT
[#10]
Its hit or mis but for only $8 a month you still get alot for your money.

I wanted to do that, but wifey has a few shows she wants to watch which Hulu doesn't have. $50/mo to watch a few shows.

This is a problem with your internet connection, not Netflix.

They have Hotdog the movie and thats all that counts.

I love Netflix.  I get Star Trek (4 series, with DS9 coming in October), Original BSG, BSG 1980, new BSG, Mission Impossible, Buck Rodgers, Sliders, Firefly, Farscape, Stargate (all incarinations), Earth 2 and Cheers among other shows in my instant queue, plus a variety of hard-to-find movies that I like that are also on instant view.  And it costs way less than my cable, which I don't watch anyway.

For a few dollars more, I can have them send me some DVDs of movies I can't find at the rental stores.
7/7/2011 6:52:53 PM EDT
[#15]
We have Blockbuster here.  They send out video games and blu rays plus we can exchange them at the store.  Unfortunately we only have one store around but it works for u s.

if a show is no longer available its because whatever studio made it isnt letting Netflix show it.  the total # of titles available on Watch Instantly grows every week
7/7/2011 6:55:58 PM EDT
[#17]
Really? I've got nearly 200 titles in my disc queue and over 150 in my instant watch queue. We also see at least one movie a week in a theater. There's more stuff than I could possibly watch on Netflix.

Horizons. Expand yours.

You know it's not just what is on the menu when you are browsing right? I go here to look at what is getting set to expire from being available instantly or the newest releases.

I  dont actually watch TV and I look at maybe one movie a month. The family used it to watch TV shoes. Since I am paying, I like to use ti once in a  while.

I searched for some titles and none of them were available. Friggin Blues Brothers wasn't even available. But it sure has a ton of friggin Blues Clues.

Since I am not a TV or movie buff I guess its bound to suck for someone like me, but I do remember when we first got it, most things you searched for were available instant or at least DVD. Now when I search , most of the page  results are not available.

I am the guy who rented old stuff at the video stores whenever I went in.  I liked being able to browse the old stuff and always found something good with reliability. Not so much with netflix. I guess the video store model isnt deal yet. (it is in my area) as its sure not replaced by netflix.

You might run out on the instant selection, but thats why you can get dvds mailed to your house in the included price....DId you forget that part?

I fail to see how anyone could possibly run out of stuff on Netflix to watch.  BSG, Battlestar, Firefly, Star Trek, Dirty Jobs, tons of documentaries, tons of great series....

I mean...really?

Its two separate prices.  $8 for instant, $11+ for dvd's.

Why is it not working right? Last night, when I would click on a genre it would say unavailable.

Tonight, its working but they don't have the "list" option. I don't want to have to look at all the pictures.

Neflix streaming selection is pathetic. I'm also getting tired of sending movies back and forth having to choose in advance as I usually don't know what I feel like watching until the night of.

My bad....I didnt know there was that many options. My wife signed us up and I thought we bought the cheapest one:  1 DVD at a time and access to instant movies....

Again, I thought everyone had to get the dvd and instant movies.....

Sometimes it borks up.  Just email Netflix and they'll typically give you more subscription for free because they screwed up.

Contract dispute with Sony.

Stock just got upgraded to a 305 price tag.

Some of the folks here like Sony movies.  Sony wants you to buy a PS3 and use their download system (which blows giant sized goats).

NCR and coinstar never made a play with their online as they claimed to.  It's still vaporware.

Hulu is nothing but adds and rumored to be for sale at the right price.  That's a shock considering how much NBC was depending on it as part of their business model.

Direct TV now owns Blockbuster.  It still sucks.  They remodeled their price structure to resemble what Coinstar has done with Redbox.  Not going to save it.

Cancelling Netflix for the streaming shows just how laughably successful they have gotten with their new business model.  Some folks only care about streaming even though the company was founded on cheap DVD rentals.

A lot of stuff has been removed from streaming that was in my Que.  But I can still always find something to watch.  I'm working through 10 seasons of sg1 now, in season 4

I'd have to be unemployed and never leave my house for years to watch everything of interest on Netflix.  Tons of stuff.  You're nuts, OP.

Don't cancel. I own stock, dammit.
Easy Money is on the streaming queue. Rodney Dangerfield is awesome.

Also, most of George Carlin's HBO specials are streaming. Great stuff.

I am not paying $8/mo just to watch shows on my iPad that I can watch for free on any computer. And not only that, but there are items which are not available on Hulu+, but they are on Regular Hulu, and there are eff'n COMMERCIALS! WTF? I am not paying to watch commercials! Netflix is worlds better than the crap Hulu+ is...

Lately I've pretty much run out of stuff to stream. All the TV shows I might be interested in, I watched when they aired. Sometimes I can find a movie I haven't seen that sounds good, but I have to really search hard for one.

They aren't the same thing. Hulu+ has shows that are currently running. Netflix is stuff that is out on disc.

FWIW, we have Satellite and I buy Blu-ray discs. Probably the most expensive way to go, but my quality is better than any streaming service. I have a nice system that can showcase the difference.
