According to the Army Times it looks like they're going to be changing the APFT. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/03/army-first-look-at-new-pt-030411w/ A revolutionary new physical readiness test will shorten your run distance, eliminate sit-ups, change the way you measure push-ups and add three new events. In addition, a new combat readiness test may replace one of the two PT tests soldiers do each year. Thoughts? |

Quoted: The article says "Scoring scales will be the same for men and women." Anyone know if that really is accurate? The information for the article appears to have been provided by a Lt. General. Seems accurate to me. I wonder what effect it will have on the overall difficulty of the test. |

I'm not sure that the writer of the article understands what the "rower" event is, considering they stated that situps have been eliminated. The rower event is a modified form of situps where you don't have anyone holding your feet. Starting position is flat on the ground with arms extended above your head and legs out straight. To complete a repetition, the person sits up, bringing their legs in to the 90 degree angle normally used during "old fashioned" situps, and brings the arms forward from over the head till they're parallel to the surface and extended past the knees. Once this is done, the user returns back to the starting position, constituting one repetition. Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about a PT test that includes a 60 yard shuttle run in addition to a 1.5 mile run. Changing how pushups and situps are performed during the test is a good thing in my book, and I see no issue with the standing long jump, but two running events designed to test anaerobic running ability has me going
