How likely is it to be passed after congress comes back? And yes, I know, it's all Republican right now. But they helped put the AWB extension on the Manufactures lawsuit bill to kill it.

So what's to say they won't pass another one. Bush allowed it to sunset to get re-elected, but he did say he would sign a renewal. He's out in 2008, so what's to say, he won't let another AWB come to pass?

Anyone have a "real" inside line to the congress?

I would say it is unlikely at this time.  The AWB was in fact useless and they know it.  I would say if anything had a snowballs chance of happening it would be a specific mag limit bill.  The reason I say this is that it was the only part of the law that had any real substance at all.  It is also particular enough not to require alot of thought or hair splitting.  If the antis made their target that specific, we would have a hard time fighting it.  We could argue self defense all we want and 2A ad nauseum and they could simply repond that 10 shots should be enough to defend yourself and even most target games use 10 rounds as a basis.  For those that require higher numbers of rounds, even with reloads, everyone is on the same playing field.  It would be hard to fight and tough for congresscritters to resist.

I need to be more clear. I am not asking about a renewal of the 94 AWB, I am asking about an outright ban on newly manufactured Assault Weapons and a registration of current AW's. You know that's where Fineswine would love to go. Just like the 50 Caliber ban in California. It if was up to her, "turn them in Mr. and Mrs. America".

I would worry more about your state than the Feds.

Ain't gonna happen.

If the ban didn't have the support needed to prevent its sunset how would there possibly be enough support for a new one?

It's dead and gone, thank god.

Worry about legislation at the state level - that's where we are more likely to see it.
