So a buddy of mine here at work is telling me about the update he got on his Samsung Galaxy S2, an update that I never got. After some reading, he got ICS 4.0.4 just like everyone else in the world.
Can I force this update, or can I even get it? I'm not sure if I have Gingerbread or Ice Cream Sandwich. I'm technically challenged, so you won't see me going in and dicking around with anything deeper than the standard settings.

I probably don't need the update, but I like feeling special.

No updates for me. And I have Gingerbread, so no really cool updates for me until a year from now when I get a new phone.

Thanks for the info

ETA: When did the GS2 get ICS?

Is it worth the update? I have been holding off, I got the text saying my phone is eligible for the update.

You need to use Kies to update it. They don't do the over the air updates. I'm on TMob and that is how it was when I updated mine earlier this month.  By the way, Samsungs touchwiz interface sucks balls and retains most of the look of gingerbread while not really looking much like ICS. And it manages to be slower and have more lag.

Are you sure it is 4.0.4 ?

Many of the AT&T S2s just updated to 4.0.3

My Galaxy Tab 2 did upgrade to 4.0.4 last weekend
