Is it just me or do these things look very our of place in the desert.  Does anyone here wear these?  Are they made of the light weight ripstop nylon?  Looks to me like the Army just wanted to hop on the USMC digi bandwagon.

I think they look goofy. Having the rank front and center on the uniform is totally useless when carrying a weapon.

This coming from a flyboy who gets weird looks from the Army types when they realise he's not carrying a weapon.

Started seeing them here a couple of weeks ago. Kinda look like a faded com-bloc uniform to me, does seem very out of place in the desert.

The pictures I have seen look like they work well.  A lot of time went into developing them.  They look better in person - look forward to ditching my BDU's - tired of the people compalining about wearing the rougout boots with the BDU as well.

Yeah they started showing up here at that time as well, the flaks look really stupid because they are the new digi, with old school tri-color pouches on them.

overall two thumbs down for thier uniform, doesnt blend in with ANYTHING, except maybe the sky.

I will wear three-color desert camo right up until the last second.

Operator, not equipment.

i've taking to referring to it as the "patchwork soldier" program, and the phrase is catching on around here.

ACU uniforms, with desert boots, a woodland IBA, and desert pouches.  Just think of it as the armys cost effective attempt at multicam.

From what I have seen, the new ACU is the best all environment pattern. The MARPAT desert blends in better areas with nothing but sand. The ACU blends in better when there is a bit of vegitation even desert scrub. The MARPAT green blends in better in dense jungle type areas while the ACU works better in deciduous/coniferous forests. The ACU has the advantage of being one uniform.

Check out http://www.militarymorons.com/ for some swatches. I will admit though, having 3 or 4 different camouflage patterns on your gear looks like crap. I really doubt the Army is going to replace all those 3-des and woodland IBAs too. They are having a hard enough time as it is making new ones!

don't doubt that the iba switch is gonna happen, my source at sds, who makes the molle gear says that the army has allready placed a "gynormus" order for uc mollee gear. and its really easy to switch the outer vest on the iba. Ive also heard some rumors about large orders for uc iba covers. As it is the clothing and sales here is allready stocking shitloads of aftermarket ta50 (ie eagle and spec ops) in uc.

IBA covers with no ballistic inserts are $600. Yeah. All the MCSS here have ACU MOLLE pouches and camel baks too. I'm going to snag me some 2x mag holders.

Well in most instances that I have seen them out here. The new stuff does actually work pretty well from about 100m out. Upclose though you have to wonder about it. ehhehe The newer stuff that is currently being issued is definatly a lot better color spread than the first gen pattern.

The TRADOC website had a good info sheet on the ACU

http://www-tradoc.army.mil/pao/fact_sheets/ACU/ACUstandinginfo.htm

Anyway, still wearing my three color. Saw a shit load of the 45 BCT guys going up north with all the ACU OTV's and pouchs etc.

hahahahaha d00d, that's the biggest crock of shit i've ever read in my life...quantico and camp lejeune are not "dense jungle type areas" and they blend perfectly and better than the woodlands or the acu's. the desert marpats do great in any type of arid environment from featureless sand dunes to 29 stumps to ntc. again, better than the acu's. the acu's were developed to be "ok" in a variety of environments for troops who are primarily motorized and don't really need something that blends perfectly into whatever the local terrain is (i'm not even sure why the marcor does...i guess they're just more combat oriented that way...). army troops only need one iniform and don't have to have two different sets in their seabag. makes a big difference to the wallet of your average enlisted troop.

the acu's are a lightweight ripstop blend of cotton and nylon, i think. nicer than the heavier material of the marpats. but that fucking zipper is fucked up beyond belief. if you don't get both zipper tabs (it's 2-way) locked in together perfectly and you don't get the male thingy in the female doohicky, it will jam up on you like a motherfucker and you'll be tugging it every which way yelling and screaming the whole time. blech, that and all the velcro patches are an abomination.

it is a cool design though, and that bi-swing back is something the marcor needs to adopt right away!

ETA: i gotta get pix of this shit just to show my point...
