Built as a result of numerous request by the hunters who wanted a slightly shorter barrel and lighter swing weight in a carry rifle for predator hunting/calling, this 20 inch barreled version of our Varminter will deliver all the accuracy you have come to expect from a Bushmaster. The 20 inch Barrel is fluted 4150 ChroMoly Vanadium Steel with sharp 1 x 8 incn twist rifling for heavier bullets typically used on bigger varmints and predators. Predator features include a hybrid SAAMI Spec. chamber, Two-Stage Competition Trigger (3 1/2 lb. take-up and 1 lb let-off); a Vented Aluminum Free-Floater Forend with Bipod Stud; B.M.A.S. 1/2" Mini-Risers for optimum scope positioning and cheek weld; Hogue ergonomic, ambidextrous pistol grip; a 5 Round Magazine (legal for hunting in most states). Shipped with Safety Block and Operators Manual in Lockable, Foam padded, Hard Case.

Personally, if you replace that factory float tube with a KAC FF RAS or equivalent and perhaps some type of flip-up front sight you would have a very capable MWS platform.  I really like this better then the traditional varmiter.

Is the shorter barrel going to effect accuracy noticeably?

So what is the "hybrid" chamber?  Is it a Wylde or something new?

the length of a barrel has nothing to do with how well it shoots

ie: You can get a 16' barrel to shoot better (groups) than a 24" barrel

I'm not sure, I haven't shot it yet..however, if it's anything like my Bushmaster DCM Rifles that I compete with, it should shoot very well. The Predator has the same specs as the DCM barrels only fluted and without a matching bolt.

GENIOUS!!!!!

This is the improvement the Bushy varminter needed.  The 1:8 twist is the best part - 1:9 kept a lot of people who wanted to shoot heavy bullets from ordering this.

Outstanding!

I hope it is Wylde.  I have had excellent results from Wylde chambers.

Put a railed gas block on it so you can mount some iron sights if so desired and you will have something.

Nice gun. I just bought a RR 18 inch and I love it but it is a little heavy. This Bushy looks like it would be managable toting around the country side. My only beef is the 1300 dolar price tag. I paid 889 and I don't think the Bushy could shoot any better groups. I will be watching with interest.

I don't think Bushmaster needs to some how fit into their 5 lines about the rifle that TN has some silly and backwards hunting laws. They do not need to add pages of info on every state's hunting laws to sell a rifle.

The Predator does not come with a matching bolt like the Varminters or the 16" & 20" DCMs.

Does anyone know when BM plans on releasing the 24" version in 1x8??  As I'm interested in using one for competition, I've been waiting patiently for a while, and this Predator is tantalizingly close.  If any BM reps are reading this- any idea? (and hint hint!)

Many thanks,
BB

The closest thing Bushmaster has at this time is a threaded/non-fluted DCM Barrel assembly with matching bolt.

I bought the Varminter several weeks ago right after I bought a 16 inch bushy. I really love the varminter as I like a rifle that shoots to same point of aim when it gets hot etc. Its seems to do that so far even after I let it cool only partially.
I guess I just like accuracy when I am shooting a scoped rifle.
I will definitely buy one of these predators next and put an Adjustable stock on it.

can a flash suppressorbe put on it?  I was told by bushmaster that the varminter and the predator can't have one installed due to the 11 degree crown.  Anyone know where I could get it done?

Well just heard from Bushmaster on the subject of a suppresor and here are thier words:

Subject: Barrels, Target & Flash Hider

Bushmaster does not recommend installing muzzle brakes or flash hiders to our DCM/CMP, Predator or Varminter barrels with the 11 degree competition crown. There is a gap left between the muzzle and the flash hider that allows carbon build up on the crown. These carbon deposits can trap moisture causing pitting to the crown which will affect accuracy in the long run.
Bushmaster will not warranty a modified barrel.

Guess that answers the question. Oh well.

Anyone know what the weight is for the Predator?  BTW --  will the 1 in 8 twist work with m193?
Lastly -- how does this perform -- average groups?

In a mid-length upper would sell, they would do well with that. But. that requires change, and some are not ready.
