This is my 1st build. I got the case and power supply for Christmas and have been feeling slightly overwhelmed with all the component choices since then. I think I've decided on all my guts but want some feedback from some more knowledgeable people before I place the order. The case and power supply I have are an Antec 900 and zumax 650w. The rest of the components I'm getting ready to purchase are as follows: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Processor BX80570E8500 Intel DX38BT Motherboard Patriot Viper Dual Channel 2048MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz Memory Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB Hard Drive rotating Serial ATA cable Creative Labs X-FI Xtreme Gamer Fatality Sound Card XFX GeForce 8800 GT Video Card HP DVD1070i 20X SATA Multiformat DVD Writer Aside from my Human interface devices, is there anything I missed that I need to build this box? Anyone have any problems with the components listed? If there are no issues I will probably be placing my order tomorrow morning

I'm still on the fence about an OS. It will be Windoz, I'm just trying to decide if I want to try Vista or or if I want to stay with XP till MS replaces it in a year or so  I was using Win 98 until '04 when I went to XP

XP Pro definitely. I'm also partial to ASUS motherboards (never used an Intel so I can't comment on them). |
I would agree, get XP Pro! I hear alot that Vista is going the way of Windows ME, Windows 7 will be replacing it very shortly |
I agree here, my 2 best computers have had ASUS mobos in them and run great! My quad core is running the ASUS Maximus It is no longer available, so I would recommend this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131284 It is expensive, but it gives you the room for growth |
