I talked to the local electrical company today about having a service (200 amp) brought onto my property.  They are going to bury a line to a transformer and said that I could have the meter placed on a rack next to the transformer.  The engineer said that I need to have the rack installed, a meter backer, and a disconnect ready to go.  My question is that something a person with some electrical experience can do?  The power company is going to run the lead from the transformer to the meter and the tail from the meter to the disconnect.  Basically I would be mounting these items to a rack made out of 4x4s and a piece of plywood.

Any comments from any electricians or those that have done this in the past?

It isn't hard to do but you might want to make sure you can use wood. For example Indianapolis Power and
Light requires 4" rigid conduit or 3" structural steel channel for the posts and unistrut for the crossmembers.
Would suck to have to rebuild it.

Very easy setup for anyone with any electrical/mechanical skill to build.  It would look like this, but with one disconnect and a slightly smaller meter base
1/2" conduit is for ground wire down to the grounding rod, 2" conduit is underground feed to pole barn.  Meter base is fed by the transformer on the left
through the 2-1/2" conduit.

I doubt the electric company will provide the wire past the meter, you might want to double check that.
