Hey guys this may be a dumb question but I dont know how to do it. I posted 2 weeks ago that I got hired as a LOE and I am in the Acadamy now. Today I was issued my duty belt and dont know how it goes together. As in what order to put stuff on I am right handed and I recived Belt, Holster, mag holder, handcuff case, key holder, and batton holder. We are not aload to use anything not issued to us and must use a regular batton not colaspable. so what order do they go in and is the mag holder beter in the up or sideways position. Also my Beretta (its mine they wont issue thiers untill I need it so I am just trying to break my holster in) will barly fit in let alone it takes 2 hads to get it out. What is the best way to break it in so it will draw beter. Any help would be great. This stuff they issued us is hard as a rock but we cant use anything else or add anything for the first year so I guess I stuck with it.
Thanks
Tim

well, it generally depends on dept training.
you will be shown where to put the equip on your belt when you are trained to use it by the instructors, don't sweat it, i wouldn't worry about it right now.

at least that's the way it is (was) in MI.

most depts prefer you to have the cuffs opposite your duty weapon, and the magazines on your "strong" side, the side you use your weapon, for a quicker reload.
other than that, just wait till they tell you where to put it and then go from there.

Ditto above. Also, what brand holster is it? If it's a Safariland, then there is a tension screw on the outer side of the holster. Check it to make sure it's not too tight.

don't sweat it too much, as you get more street time you'll pretty much find out what works for you, also take a look at what the guys with more "time on" are doing.

Tim,  put the stuff where you are most comfortable with it.  Look to see where the "old guys" have their stuff, and try different set ups.

Your gun is a beretta, hopefully that's what the holster is for....

As for the holster, if it's not a safariland, crank the tension screw(s) down tight over night for a couple of nights.  (don't forget to back it off in the morning.)
if it is a safariland, kwb377 is right, just back the screw off a little.

draw your gun alot.  in out in out in out....

Let the guys at the Academy tell you how they want it put together for now, or you'll be asking for trouble.  I'm going into my third month at the NYPD Academy and if I learned one thing, don't try and be an individual.  They'll want it uniformed and their way so no one will get it "wrong."  Once you get out you can set up your belt the way you feel more comfortable.  I also check out the way the seasoned guys at the Academy wear their equipment, but for now I follow what the instructors tell me to do and how to do it.

If you're right handed put your baton ring on your left side next to your radio holder. Your handcuff case should be placed so you can get to it with either hand. If you look at the back of your duty belt, the reinforced section should be placed where your holster is secured. Flashlight ring, knife holder etc should be placed in a comfortable spot. If you have a safariland holster, there are tension screws on top and bottom to keep it secure on the belt. Once you're sure you have it where you want it, take a permanent marker and trace along the side of the holster on the back of the belt. This way when you take the belt apart to clean the equipment, you can resecure it without having to put it back on. I would suggest taking tour leather home once a month to clean it with saddle soap, then use black shoe polish on it. Silver polish works well on the buckle. Take good care of your leather, and it'll last forever.

For a tight holster, use spray silicone. You can buy it at any auto parts store. Use lots of it, it won't hurt the gear or the gun. Be sure and get the "light" stuff that looks like water. They make some that is thick and gummy also, but stay away from that.
