So how is this membership supposed to work? I paid my dues a couple of days ago but my account has not been activated. For those that are members - did you get an email or something? How long did it take?

Yes, you will receive an email once your account has been upgraded. There's a decent chance it'll happen this weekend since the administrator tries do take care of it during his off time.
